Just bought a new lawnmower for my new house.

Honda HRX217HYA

(Bought at MaxTool... $689 delivered)

Tell me, arf-experts, where I have gone astray.

I buy mowers off craigslist for $50 and get 2-3 years out of them. Leaves more money for guns and ammo.

I use an hrc216 but i was a commercial guy for a long time. I used to buy a dozen every spring, 2 dozen later on when we got bigger.

That mower is a decent mid level mower and will last most homeowners a long time.

You cant abuse it as hard as a hrc and it isnt as fast but the handlebars are shorter which is nice.

I considered a commercial Honda, but couldn't justify the price difference

I hear ya. If you havent spent a lot of time using one you wont ever know the difference. Just dont buy one. There is no going back after that.

I stopped mowing commercially 5 years ago. I tried a cheap stihl trimmer last year. I got so fucking frustrated that i beat it against the sidewalk until the carb flew off and plastic was everywhere.

I would have bought the commercial Honda if it had the same versa-mow clip director system (Bag or mulch lever).  As I understand it anyway the residential mower has a more powerful engine than the commercial line not sure if that is true however.

You don't have enough land to require a zero turn with a 72 inch deck.

I love mine but hate the rear discharge and the bag is too small. For those times you let it grow too long it sucks. If it were side discharge with a larger bag it would be the worlds best push mower

Enjoy your new mower.  Take care of it, it should last a while.

If it doesn't, come see us about something cheap, old, basic, and reliable. Bring tools and wear old clothes

Tier 1?  It doesn't even have a seat.  It's the .25 ACP of lawnmowers.

Tier one it is not.

Ive never been a fan of self propelled mowers, but I sure love Honda stuff. You'll have it for many, many years.

Only walk behind better than a new Honda is a 90's John Deere 14SB.

anyone that has enough mowable grass to justify a 72-in zero turn needs to have their head checked

Massey Ferguson 4x4 compact tractor with 60" mower deck. I use a Honda push mower for a little bit of trim work around landscaping.
