Good job calls and letters? More than you think. We had one a week ago from a MV stop a guy made. Ahhh...the good ol days of policing. Man, when the job was easier! There certainly was plenty of violent crime 25 years ago. Drugs were about as bad. In fact, I think you'll see that the rates of violent crime was worse 25 years ago than it is today. Crime doesnt mean the job was harder. The amount of laws, procedures, policies etc were a fraction back then compared to now. When I was a new recruit back in 1970, they gave us a booklet in the academy that contained all laws we needed to know, from traffic laws to misdemeanors to felonies in the state of Texas. It was a soft cover book, yellow in color, and was about the size of an old Reader's Digest. I bet such a list today would look more like a Houston phone book, in several volumes. And there is the problem. I'll bet nearly everyone has broken at least one, if not several laws before the six 'o clock news. Yep,thousands of laws added to the books every year at all levels, who has time to look them all up? I remember the beginning of this year there were "dozens of new laws" taking affect, but the media only talked about 1. These are the good ol days-the fuckers are thinking up more laws as we sit here and chat. |
