Good job calls and letters? More than you think. We had one a week ago from a MV stop a guy made.

Ahhh...the good ol days of policing. Man, when the job was easier!

There certainly was plenty of violent crime 25 years ago.  Drugs were about as bad.  In fact, I think you'll see that the rates of violent crime was worse 25 years ago than it is today.

Crime doesnt mean the job was harder.

The amount of laws, procedures, policies etc were a fraction back then compared to now.

When I was a new recruit back in 1970, they gave us a booklet in the academy that contained all laws we needed to know, from traffic laws to misdemeanors to felonies in the state of Texas.  It was a soft cover book, yellow in color, and was about the size of an old Reader's Digest.

I bet such a list today would look more like a Houston phone book, in several volumes.

And there is the problem. I'll bet nearly everyone has broken at least one, if not several laws before the six 'o clock news.

Yep,thousands of laws added to the books every year at all levels, who has time to look them all up?

I remember the beginning of this year there were "dozens of new laws" taking affect, but the media only talked about 1.

These are the good ol days-the fuckers are thinking up more laws as we sit here and chat.

I don't think the lawyer said what you think he said -

"The thing that concerns me about this is it looks to me like a conspiracy of silence. Things like this don't happen in a vacuum. There's nothing that we've been able to get that identifies the officers, that identifies the action that occurred. We have our client's information but I had to hire a private investigator just to get enough faxed to determine whether I should file a lawsuit or not. And I'm convinced that the facts are adequate to file this lawsuit and we'll find out now that we have some way to get accurate information," said Crisp's attorney, Boadus Spivey.

I also used to wear a badge around 25 years ago.

Sure you get calls for help. When people have little recourse.
Because if people do things on their own they'll get arrested. So of course you get calls
But how many calls do you get from average citizens. Saying "Good Job" ?

Do you honestly think that the Law Enforcement Community is loved and respected in this country?
This isn't the 1950's anymore.
Hell it's not even the 80's when you guys still had respect.
Now not so much.

Who's fault would that be? I blame it on heavy handed tactics of The War On Drugs. .
Mindset brought, or creeping into the rest of law enforcement.

Video shot by someone driving by that day shows Herman Crisp sitting in a chair on his lawn with a friend. He says when the officers arrived; they threw a flash-bang device at his home, knocking him out of his chair.

If the police know they're on camera, they're going to be minding their P's and Q's.

It's much more revealing when they're caught on camera without their knowledge.

So maybe either the old man is crazy or senile  and the police were never there, or police were there and covering it up.

One would think there are radio logs, and probably far more evidence that will be uncovered.

That doesn't sound like an ambulance chasing lawyer looking for a quick shakedown to me.

When your only tool is a hammer, and you have qualified immunity, every problem is going to look like it needs the living shit beat out of it.

Yep. Explain to me now GD how you are not living in a bonafide police state?

Define police state.

I think it means you have speed limits and stuff.

Fringed flags.

Funny, shit like this happens all the time.
But do the LEO's learn from it? No, they just circle the wagons.
And make that TBL a 4 lane highway.
Then they wonder why the average citizen in the country has no use for them.
They made the bed, they are currently sleeping in.

I don't bash cops. They have never done anything to me I didn't deserve.
But they have totally screwed the pooch so many times. It's about all fucked out.
And most people don't give a rats ass about them!

Police officers continue to be voted in the top ten "Most Respected" lists.

They are only hated by a few cop haters in General Discussion.

I don't hate cops.  I hate bad cops.  The police are an absolutely necessary part of a civil society.

Me too........if they left that old man like that then I hope they get fucked in the ass

Did the old man tell any of the cops he was injured?

lol

I remember a few videos where the cops basically just said tough shit or stood around and did nothing when someone was hurt. Not all cops are good people.

Unless they have the training, why would they want to get sued?

Yeah,I understand that-had the same conversation with Extorris not too long ago.

Our small town cops around here have EMT training and that seems like a good idea to me.I've taken basic courses over the years as well, just so I don't end up standing around watching someone bleed out.

The lawsuit part is shitty-I'd rather someone at least tried to help me or a family member even if they weren't a doctor or nurse.Probably a different mindset in a big city over the hospital being 45 minutes away in a rural area.

You might, because you want them to do the right thing and try.

However, not everyone has the right mindset and we have to deal with the lowest common demoninator.

With the amount of info in the linked story I think we should move straight to deliberations.....

There are two possibilities:

1.  It happened exactly as stated by the lawyer.  In that case, the police were wrong and the guy ought to win a law suit.

2.  There might be more to the story, and maybe it didn't happen exactly as stated.

Considering he wasn't arrested, my money is on #1.

I posted previously in this thread that I would wait to hear more of the story.

I was talking about other incidents that were caught on tape where the cops didn't care.

I honestly doubt that.

But imagine being a police officer and needing to know all of those laws.  And they are constantly changing.

And there is the problem. I'll bet nearly everyone has broken at least one, if not several laws before the six 'o clock news.

They just need to know the ones they're going to enforce.

Imagine being someone that has to follow all of them.

You're not always dealing with the lowest common denominator (but I get what you are saying).

Yea I'm kinda doubting some of the "facts" clearly the 2 officers shown in the video weren't wearing SWAT gear.

Needs more info.

I also want to note the general laziness we see in cases like these. Just a little surveillance work could have gotten ID on who was in the house and how to proceed.

ETA We see in the wrong house no knocks as well. Perhaps laws need to change to put it to an end.
