Had my girl since she was 8 weeks old. She was the protector of our household, standing guardian over us and our 3 kids for 11 years as we played and slept. She was the alpha to our other GSD who is lost without her.

I haven't cried this much since I was a child and wish I had more time with her. I miss my sweet beautiful girl. No more pain, no more suffering.

Brother I fleel your pain. I am having to make that decision on my 13 yr old GD. He has degenerative Myolopsy. I hav no children he is my life and it's killing me that I have to put him down. He is the only soul I have never wronged, spent his whole life protecting him and now I have to be the one to kill him. Been crying a lot lately thinking about it.

Sucks man, but you were man enough to do the right thing and end her suffering.

I learned the same compassion as a child from my father, so when the time came to put down my Golden, I did what needed to be done.

Now go have a cold one and pour one out for her.

Sorry for your loss. We had to have our GSD put down three years ago after suffering from cancer too.

I've had to put down 2 and am watching TV with the third right now, best dogs you can have. Sorry to hear OP, shit's rough. I think mine's gonna get to sleep in the be tonight

I have had to put 3 dogs down. All tore my heart apart.

I look at it this way.

They would give their lives to protect me from pain and suffering.

I should do the same for them in their time of suffering with no hope in sight. That is put their needs before mine. You are making the right decision for them, just like they would do for you.

She loved you and your family with everything she had. She didn't deserve the pain or to be in the condition she was in. You did the right thing for a trusted companion and friend.

I hope the family and kids are doing alright. Spend some extra time with them, and with the other pup.

Be thankful you had such a great dog. It's one of the blessings in life.

Cancer took my Mountain Cur, Molly, before it ought to have been her time back in 2009. I held her in my arms and told her what a good girl she was and how much I loved her as she was put to sleep. I still get tears in my eyes when I think about it, even as I type this. I have three more now, who I love just as much, but I still miss Molly.
