My bias runs like this:
All Western States are good. California, Washington, Oregon, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Wyoming, Colorado. Not sure where Texas fits in here, but I like Texas too. I like the Southern States, Arkansas, MS, LA, FLA, GA, NC, SC, Kentucky, Tennessee. Beautiful scenery, Great Smoky Mountains, the weather usually isn't too frigid. Okay, Florida is flat and humid, but it has beaches. And Disneyworld. The rest of them are meh. Northeast? Too cold, too liberal. Midwest? Not enough mountains, too cold. A completely biased opinion, not to be taken seriously! |

When I was in the Navy, I had a guy from New Jersey ask me if there were hitching posts outside of the stores here in Ks... I grew up in Olathe, just a short hop south of KC. But I told him yes, and the nice thing about horses is no matter how drunk I get, they always know the way home! I also told him I had never seen indoor plumbing until I joined the Navy. And I thought toilet paper was the most amazing invention ever! After all, all we had was catalogs.... I wish I had thought about indian attacks, I totally would have used that!!
ETA: He wasn't joking either, he was completely serious. |

I have driven across Kansas half a dozen times. The drivers there aren't bad at all. They know how to do road construction there too. You slow down a few miles per hour on the interstate and move to the other lane. They could teach Nevada how it's done. Here you have to wait for a pilot car to lead you past it, and they can legally hold you up at a stop for a half hour.
I'll be passing through there again in a few months. I always enjoy the part of the trip through Kansas. |
