Via Twitter: "I've just taken the senate floor to begin a filibuster of the Patriot Act renewal. It's time to end the NSA spying!" Hell YES! Any bets on how long this one will last? |

Lets see who comes down and joins him...............
Good on Rand Paul!!!! |
|
That piece of RINO trash Peter King was on bashing Paul.
Fuck him with Lady Liberty's Torch. |
|
The Patriot Act needs to die. It will be interesting who among the freedom loving GOP votes to renew it. |
|

Piss on the Patriot Act.
The muzzle needs to come off of all of the people that have had their hands forced under it. I'd like to hear about all of the abuses. Bush was out of his fucking mind on this one. |

So Rand is going to get good ol Mitchy's panties in a huge knot again!

Stand With Rand |

If this is a prologue to Rand's 2016 campaign's "official" beginning, it's a damn good political move.
Go Rand! |

Nah. Rand Paul is providing a little political circus to assuage the rubes, just as he endorsed McConnell. It's all just politics. In the end, the Patriot Act will move forward. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

The really sad part is that even if the patriot act somehow got obliterated there's no way in hell they'll stop doing whatever they want to anyway in secret. Who's going to tell the government to stop breaking the law anyway? |

Everyone contact your senators and ask them to support Rand Paul!

I hope we can call him POTUS next election. Don't be surprised to see him making full use of the renewed Act if that happens. Yeah, but at least we will get less spending, smaller government, and more personal freedom................. (yeah that's sarcasm) |

No other senators are in the chamber. I don't usually watch filibusterers, is this typical?

Gullible people are funny.
This is going nowhere. He knows this is going nowhere. He is playing to a gullible audience that will lap this up. The law will pass and he will benefit from it passing while saying he tried to stop it. |

Everyone should read it. It goes FAR beyond passive collection of data. And keep in mind their is alot more that is classified. |

WTF? This is the revised renewal that restricts the metadata storage scheme, IIRC. It is not a straight-up renewal, but a reform that has the support of privacy advocates in Congress, and is opposed by a minority led by O'Connell. The title of this thread leads me to believe that Paul is fully in the tank for O'Connell - he's the only major figure pushing for no restrictions at all on NSA.

I wish he'd filibuster to end the nfa. So.. uh... what would he be filibustering? Yeah well, once we get a Republican President to go with both Houses being Republican controlled,we will start seeing the end of the NFA,ATF,IRS,etc....,and the repeal of all gun laws as unConstitutional. It will be morning in America! |

It's kind of funny to see people complaining that it is just for show. This is Washington, everything is for show. You think "debate" on the floor still has a purpose?
Maybe this draws attention to the issue and increases constituent pressure. Maybe it doesn't. But if you don't play some politics and do some grandstanding, you won't be in DC for long. |
