Yeah , but with no success , I have shot two with the bow while deer hunting . We got hardwoods here , I don't have access to farmlands , but it's definitely on my to-do list !

NJ can't have trees and critters... it's impossible!

NJ is reported to have 1 black bear per square mile of land. I calculated that when debating one of my dog show friends regarding the opening of a bear season in NJ. She was livid, claiming that they were practically endangered up there, so I pulled the numbers.

Yeah. Then I pointed out that several square miles of the state were covered by cities, that meant that in the areas where black bears did live there was more than one bear per square mile. And that females needed territories of about 5 square miles, and males ranged over about 100+ square miles. That left those areas extremely overpopulated, which would lead to starvation and very close encounters with people in suburban areas.

Her only response after that was that they were cute, and she hated to see people killing such lovely animals. I told her that was a very emotional, Disneyfied reaction, and that there was was a very real bear problem in Jersey that hunting would barely even touch.

I learned a lot about black bears during that debate.

She was saying that Chris Krispie was just pandering to the hunting crowd with his little hunting season. And that she wished they would hunt him instead.
