Will the 30-06 cartridge use, fade away as the .300 savage, 30-30, 35 Rem, 32 Win, 44-40 have.
|
|
No way. I have 3 of them and I dont even hunt.
2 Garands and a '03-A3. |
|
I'd say that it would be a problem is there weren't hundreds of thousands of Garands or millions of 30-06 hunting rifles. Those rifles will last forever.
I'm more concerned about decent loads for Garands. It's getting tougher, but not a major problem. I guess I need to buy an adjustable gas plug. |
|
30-06 fade? More of a standard for the last 100 years or so...so no I don't think it is going anywhere.
|
|
It's probably the most popular hunting cartridge in the world, so I doubt it.
|
|
Since it's the best-selling rifle caliber in reloading dies every year since since the dawn of time, I'm gonna go with "NO".

Lots of hunters in my area shoot 30-06
It's still real popular here |

The .30-06 and .45 acp will be common until an incredible new design like lasers or something unknown as of yet comes along.
Even then, the rounds will be a novelty for decades or even centuries. |

Not sure where you live but around here 30-30 sells like crazy. There was a national shortage of 35 Rem last year, people wanted it but couldn't find any. Sold a few people 30-30 and 308 rifles because they couldn't find 35 Rem. Still popular. |

There are more 30-06 loads in the shelf for 30-06 than any other caliber. It's the most popular hunting round in the US. |

Volume wise target shooters are going to purchase more ammunition than hunters. Now go find a list that shows what caliber people hunt with... |

No, centerfire rifle cartridges will be banned as "armor piercing" long before 30-06 falls out of favor.

Never. It is still an extremely versatile all around hunting cartridge. In fact, if someone asks me what they should buy for a hunting rifle my answer is usually 30-06 if you are only going to have one gun.

Actually I can see a "sniper rifle" ban getting 30-06 And that said, the .30 Government round it replaced is still commonly available. That's what the guns that shoot it are marked -- 30-40 Krag is currently in stock at Cabelas |

I will say something to consider is there are many more calibers of choice to use now. This tends to spread out the ammunition used quite a bit. But even with more choices there are plenty more hunters and shooters out there now. More stockpiling away. That's one of the reasons why many ammunition choices are harder to find sitting on the shelves.
Yes, a good lever action can cost more than a value priced bolt gun but that doesn't mean there are already plenty of lever guns in 30-30 to buy ammunition for. Same for the 30-06. Don't looks at sales of new guns as a guide. Also don't look at "Surplus" 30-06 as a sign either. "Surplus" is excess military stockpiles. The 30-06 usage by military worldwide is going the way of the DoDo bird but just because surplus 30-06 is slowly fading doesn't mean the cartridge is. If you look on the shelf and can't find your caliber of choice is that because it's fading away or the store can't get any because it's too popular? 243 Win has been hard to find the last two hunting seasons. I know it's not going anywhere but out the door as fast as it hit's the shelves. |
