I've got a ton of home footage I've shot of various mines in northern Nevada. I usually explore them with a friend who is a mining engineer. I posted threads here before with photos.

I don't have a YouTube page. I've never explored around Wendover. Mainly Fallon, yerrington, lovelock and Hawthorne.

I like watching videos much more than going in myself.

We have some big ass caves over in St. Paul. they used to store ice in them way back.

There are a bunch under downtown Mpls also.

That didn't even occur to me. lol

There are a couple of them that are full of bats. Once saw an albino bat in one of these caves.

cool, yet another thing to look into for wasting my time

I've been in a few mines here in CO and AZ

CO is full of mines/shafts just west of here.. pretty dangerous, mostly private land with not so pleasant owners

eta; the last mine I was in was the Queen Mine in AZ (Bisbee)

Just a thought - if you're going to go explore abandoned mines and stuff, maybe camo is not the best choice of clothing.

Anyone can walk around an old mine. It takes a badass to scuba dive one.

Kind of strange.

He'll drive hundreds of miles and sometimes have to make a tough hike to reach some of the mines.

IIRC he does carry as well.

I think I have watched about all of his videos.

Started watching a couple years back when he normally had about 100 views.  The channel seems to be taking off for him.

Kind of interesting because the mines can range from small time 1 or 2 level to extensive HUGE mines with thousands of feet of tunnels and levels.

Not something I'd want to do...I'm a sissy when it comes to confined spaces.

As an FYI...the mine in this video is for sale.

I was doing IT work for a coal company that is moving its headquarters. I was getting a newsletter from AOL for the industry, so its been around a while. It's loaded with people being killed on a regular basis.

This is for mines loaded with safety regulations and maintained to standards.

Who pays for digging this guy out if he is lucky enough to live ?
Link Posted: 4/26/2015 10:40:26 PM EDT

Nope. Not willingly walking into my own grave.

There is an old coal mine down by Crowsnest Pass (Bellevue) that offers a very limited tour. They only take you about 100-150 yards in. Pitch black, cold, water flowing out of mine from natural sources. That freaked me out enough.

There are at least 4 mine shafts within 15 minutes walk from my house.

This one is 4300 feet deep.  About 75 feet to water though.  43,000,000 tons of iron ore came from this mine.  Closed in 1962

I have been worked at underground hardrock mines for years,  I recently got off the mine rescue team but I have been to a few old mines to look for "explorers".

Everyone we ever found was dead.  We were about 50% in recovering bodies.

Stay out, stay alive.  The videos each had several things that would make an experienced miner say "oh sh%#"

I used to do this kinda stuff until a guy fell down an incline and survived (albeit unconscious, but alive).  The authorities determined it was not worth the danger to others to rescue him.  They lowered a camera to monitor the guy and in the end I think it took 3 or 4 days for him to expire.

What killed most of the explorers you found?  It seems other than a cave in asphyxiation would be the most likely culprit...

In his comments the videomaker states that "dry" mines like those in his AO don't have the same dangerous gas problems coal mines and the like do.

Interesting regardless, and many of the mines he pictures closed as recently as the 80s and 90s. Is any mining still done in tunnels like that?

This linked article has another guy exploring the Horton and Victorine mines... No ghosts in sight. Still a spooky tunnel.

Not to hijack, but some got slabbed (ie got hit by rocks or crushed by large masses), some from atmosphere.  Doesn't matter if it is CO, H2S or simply oxygen deficient, you are still dead,  but the gases have different effects on the human body.

Just a couple of things to consider.

If the original miners needed ventilation, what makes you think it is safe for you now?  If they needed ground support, and that support is now corroded or show signs of stress, is an abandoned drift worth your life?

The lack of ventilation part is what gets me with these videos. Some idiot going down to the 600-800ft level with likely zero ventilation in some areas.
