Can she keep a gun in the car through all those states? Does she know how to use it?

Got AAA ? View Quote That would be my biggest concern. The OP's daughter has two of the best defenders she can get, short of a gun. People used to ask us what was the best means of protection for hiking the northern part of the Appalachian Trail. They meant the part that went though New Jersey, New York, and Massachusetts. This was also back when it wasn't so easy to get a CCW, especially when a New jersey resident tried to get one in Pennsylvania. Answer: a dog. |

OP, make sure your daughter has AAA membership, an emergency kit in her car. I hope she has a reliable car if she's driving that far. I make long road trips on my own, but I go armed.
Some suggestions: Tell her to NOT stop at roadside rest areas. They're trouble for women traveling alone. Make sure she stops at well lit and busy truck stops. Best if she doesn't travel at night. Make sure she has a car charger for her cell phone (you'd be amazed how many people don't). Help her plan out her stops for nights. Make sure she gets hotel reservations in advance and help her choose good ones, in safe cities. Make sure she has pepper spray. Most importantly, make sure she understands to keep her head on a swivel and practices good situational awareness. I hope her dogs are large and very protective of her. Young attractive women traveling by themselves seem to attract attention. Tell her to not be afraid of telling truck stop or hotel if someone is following her, bothering her, etc., in addition to calling the cops if necessary. If she's on the road 911 might not be the emergency number to use. Tell her to watch for the signs along the highway. In some areas, you call *999 from your cell when on the freeway. It is sad that a 25 year old can't take care of herself. She probably can, but good parents like to do whatever they can to keep their offspring extra safe. I've encountered too many young women who lack common sense and situational awareness. If the OP's daughter possess it already, nothing wrong with reinforcing it. And I hope she doesn't have the habit of going around with earbuds inserted or her face in her phone and tuning everything else out. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Never saw the car but itis a 11-12 yo civic with 150k. She's in Bellingham right now with a dead battery. Someone she called for a jump. She has been in Portland for about 18mo, I think I convinced her to beat feet back to Pdx, ditch the car and hop a flight to N.O.. She has some support structure in Pdx. This child hasbeen uber independent since she was an early teen, always wanted to do it on her own.

My daughter drove from MN to WA when she was 16 and I didn't even know
it until a couple of years later. She went to see a friend that moved away. Our family gatherings are full of stories like this through all generations. It runs in the family. Have faith. There are still really good people out there even though our society would have you think otherwise. She will be fine dad. |

Watch out for our Wyoming weather. We had I-80 closed down for a few days due to snow, fog, semi pile ups...Not a nice place to be stuck with the roads closed.
