Phone will not let me make the link hot so sorry about that. Anyways I generally like TFB, but today's article has me shaking my head. The article reads to me like a herpa derp bubba gun shop BS. The best part was the comparison of 5.56 vs 5.45 in which TFB states 5.45 is a ballistician delight and is the true second generation SCHV round, while 5.56 represents a first generation concept. Anyways, thought everyone would enjoy picking apart this stupid article. Especially RustedAce. |

Is this the article by the AF pogue sumbich "marksman" or someone else?
ETA: nvm |

Any AR vs. AK discussion that hinges on ammo or caliber is completely asinine. You can buy or build either weapon in any flavor you like.
|
|
|
5.45 is better because the ammo is mildly corrosive, and cleaning guns is fun!
|

|
My takeaway - if Gwynneth Paltrow was to write a gun article, this is the article she would write.

S&W AR15's come chambered for older gen1 bullets and include outdated gen2 magazines.

He is free to like what he wants to like.
Not really a AK vs AR comparison in any original, meaningful, or thoughtful way, more along the lines of a fluffy love letter to an inanimate object. Whatever |
|
|
Well, it does say "why I like it" and not "why it's better" so there's that.
I just prefer the charging handle setup myself. |
|
|
I wonder if it was written by either of the different war retreads.
7n6's dupe account who called me a race traitor, or Lilly white or some shit for liking Hispanic and black chics yet got mad about the ak lovers being 88er jokes or peterglenho mr different war himself who kept bragging about his imaginary fortune and how doing crossfit and being friends with gate guards made him basically SF for the coming revolution where he would be the new George Washington . |

Article reads like it's written by a collector, but not a user. I've owned a couple AK's, and shot them a little bit. I can say I despise the safety, despise the mag release, despise the undersized stock, and the crude sights. Those are all "use based" complaints. As compared to "I can cycle it with the dust cover off" and "it looks cool". Those are things that people say about safe queens.

The reasons he lists are even good...
"The AK allows the user to “get under the hood” in a way that few other rifles do." Yeah, the AR and it's take down pin are real complicated to get past. "The AK today represents the Old World of manufacturing holding its ground against modern total-interchangeability mass production. Many AK parts are file-fitted..." Fuck standardized, inter-changable parts! "...the 5.45mm is decidedly superior to the 5.56mm" "Every criticism I have of the M1 rifle has been addressed in Kalashnikov’s adaptation of it, and all the best design characteristics are retained." "The Kalashnikov scores extremely well in cold weather performance" Might be onto something with that one, but I think there are plenty of folks here who have posted about cold weather training with the AR and no issues related to functioning. "It has Hollywood good looks" Herp. |

Accuracy sucks.
Stock sucks. Safety sucks. Sights suck. Mag changes suck. Optic mounting sucks. CH location sucks. AKs suck. |
|
The 5.45 is better than the 5.56! Oh, hold on, you're serious! Allow me to laugh even harder. So he admits it's slower, less efficient, with less energy, a lighter bullet, and fewer projectile options, all wrapped in a shitty lacquered steel case with a fucked-up taper just to get it to feed and extract... And then says it's better because the 62gr bullet weight, in general, isn't that great for 5.56. Well, shit, if M855 is the standard we're using to compare rounds, then fucking 300BLK is awesome, too! |

Every criticism I have of the M1 rifle has been addressed in Kalashnikov’s adaptation of it, and all the best design characteristics are retained. View Quote Except for the one thing that actually matters, the damn sights. ETA: They also did not retain the safety of the M1 Garand rifle, which is far superior than the AK's version shamelessly stolen from the Remington Model 8. Shit the M1 is still a better rifle in every way save for magazine capacity, and the M-14 variant has that covered. |

I quit reading TFB a long time ago because of the retards there. Every now and then I'll skim it, shake my head and remember why it's been so long since the last time I skimmed it
|

M16A1 is the best AR. The more I shoot the more I like everything about it. That is all.

Or is ya the big money FBI informant? I like some bullpups try to go to the bullpup shoot every year (missed the 2012) and have owned a few but the AR is far more versitile and a better general issue weapon at this point in time. |

Lol.
M193 and M855 are decidedly superior to 7N6. Terminal ballistics wise, the 5.45 ain't too bad with Wolf soft points. (Of course, the AR has a shitload of options that blow that out of the water.) |

http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2015/04/16/a-few-reasons-i-like-the-kalashnikov-better-than-the-ar-15/ Just seen this thread on my computer and decided to open my new Note edge to see if I could hotlink. This is only a test. |

The only issue I've got is the 5.45 vs 5.56 points he made.
You're pretty much limited to what...2 or 3 types of 5.45? With 5.56, you can walk I to any gun shop and find myriads oft hoes of ammo for different tasks...and the last time I looked...I don't think Barnes made a TSX for the 5.45. There is more to using a rifle than carbine matches, training classes and jacking off to SHTF fantasies...and the .223/5.56 is way more versatile. Well...that issue and that AKs suck donkey balls. |
|
I'm in the market for a fun gun and the PSA AK perked my interest. I've never even held an AK, so clueless.
That CZ Scorpion seems likely to find its way home at this point! Didn't read. |
