Ok, after paying $140 for DISH, I finally said NO! With 6 month old twin boys, and 2 jobs - There just wasn't enough time to justify it. However, we do like to sit down and watch a few shows and my wife isn't excatly as happy as I am since she spends 3 out of the 5 work days at home with the kids.

I have with Chrome Cast

Amazon Prime
HULU
Netflex

and a few other tv station websites like History Channel, TBS, and A&E that allow a few episodes a week to watch.

What am I missing? Anything my fellow cord cutters have to share?

(I know! CSB!)

We have Amazon Prime and a Fire TV stick and an older Roku 2.

We use antenna for everything else.

The best part is not watching so much TV, and doing other things. I haven't turned a TV on in probably 3 days.

Roku > Chromecast. Get the Roku, get a fmaily member to lend you theor cable or satellite login and download all the channels like fxx, espn, hbogo, showtime, etc and you're  gtg.

turn off the tv and enjoy the silence. and find a hobby

killed cable back in Dec (only had it turned back on in Sept so I could watch the last season of SoA ), and killed netflix a few weeks ago and all I have now is amazon and there's not a lot that I haven't watched on there (aside from new shows which I only pay for Vikings atm and a random movie here and there. I was amazed at how much free time I burned watching tv or just having it on as background noise.

TV is like a dumpster. If you ditch cable for netflix, the size of the dumpster just got smaller. You will now need to dig a bit harder to find your dinner.  Unlikely that you'll starve though.

You got rid of the TV and want to know what to do next...? Go out side dumbass!

We dumped dish years ago. One of the best things we ever did. We have Netflix, but it rarely comes on when the kids are up. If we watch something as a family, it is Andy Griffith or Duck Dynasty on DVD. Besides for that, we find other things to do. TV for the most part, is a massive waste of time.

We dumped Dish, got Netflix, Chromecast, and I built an antenna that I bolted to the old Dish Network mount (which was really satisfying BTW).

Now the TV is hardly on.  Chromecast reset and our 1st gen ipad wont' support it and neither will the Vista laptop (which initially did) so I can't get it set back up.  Netflix gets old.  Roku was a waste of money in the first place.

This is the antenna I built.  It picks up all but the fringe channels that TV Fool suggests it should.

Pretty much what I use with the occasional movie or show being watched on ITunes that I cannot get anywhere else.

Take up geocaching. You can do it with the whole family, and a good entry level GPS costs as much as just one of your TV bills.

So this is all great but there are some things I cannot see myself living without such as NFL football and lately March Madness.

Does it bother you that you can no longer DVR shows?

Roku has the history channel app with everything you'd want to watch.

I've been thinking about it.  Even mapped out that all our shows can be found on apps.  The woman is resisting though.

We have Antenna and Internet TV.  It's really too bad Smart TVs don't have a browser option.

Watched a new segment on the millennial's (and others) who are cutting ties with cable / satellite.

It showed that on average a person SAVES more by keeping a traditional cable / satellite package.

It broke down the reasons why people are ditching cable / satellite, number one being that they on average watch 17 channels out of 144 on a typical package.

They don't like paying for all of the channels they don't watch.

Another reason is that most millennial's don't watch "TV" on a TV set, most watch from some sort of "device".

I myself have DTV and DSL.

Comcast sucks ass and will never get another penny from me.

Dumped DirecTV in January.  Use Amazon Prime and Netflix.  Don't miss paying for 100 and some channels and only watching about five of them.

Instead of being a cord cutter I called TWC and got our bill down to $69 a month with one HD box, sports package, one extra package, and 200/20 internet with a modem.

Unfortunately a lot of apps on Apple TV and such require a cable subscription. Even if were able to buy a package ala carte I think it would end up costing me more than the deal we have right now. The internet I have without any deals is $65 or $4 less than what I'm getting now with an HD box/package, and two additional packages. We also get HBO GO through our cable subscription. With all of the sports channels and such we get I'd be looking at $40 a month if they were $1 each never mind any other programming.

Haggling can go a long way and they'd rather make some money. They have a lot of accounts where people are paying $200 a month and a few people calling in to haggle isn't going to change much on their end but its still money being made.

Been wanting to do this but the SO is tied to local news and weather - can I pick those up through some other manner?

Also, once you get Roku and then sign up (pay) for the different channels, plus Hulu plus Netflix, do you really save much money over cable?  You still need tp pay for the internets....

Yep, though appletv has a number free stations like PBS and Smithsonian.  ROKU does support Amazon which AppleTv does not.

In best ARFCOM vernacular. Get both.

Did I say anything about free broadcasting TV? No? Neither did the article.

I haggled my Dish bill down to 20/month but it wasn't worth the kids being glued to tv, violent commercials in family friendly programming, or "family friendly" programming with sexual overtones and scantily dressed actors influencing my kids from every conceivable angle.
