He is a very good, probably great in the pocket drummer. Technically I'm sure he is as good as any other professional drummer. But he is not a game changer like Neil Peart, Stewart Copeland, or a list of others in terms of technical proficiency and moving the needle. A very good drummer? Yes. And excellent groove drummer? Yes. But as in life there are dozens, if not hundreds of guys out there who could eat him alive. Take a look at Chad Smith. Phenomenal pocket and groove drummer. Out of this world. But he doesn't put himself out there as being one of these crazy double bass technical masters. I suppose Inspector Harry Callahan said it best. "A man's gotta know his limitations." |
