Facts still coming in. "South Korean media say U.S. Ambassador Mark Lippert has been attacked while giving a lecture and taken to a hospital for treatment." |

Just saw this break on fox news, no details yet either. Doesn't SK have a pretty sizable "Go Home Yankee" movement? |
|
|
Pics on CNN show him bleeding pretty good from the side of his face.

Some pics, doesn't look too serious:

It obviously ain't cheap and so many of our "allies" aren't exactly grateful(I don't mean SK, but in general). |

If I were pres it would take them a 1000 years to get back to the Stone Ages..............

I have nothing nice to add since he's a Democrat who worked for Dianne Feinstein, Tom Daschle, & Barack Obama, he's well connected
to the Liberals. I am not saying he deserved it. |

Could be the Norks. This sort of stuff is right up their alley. I'd love to it to be that Gangnam Style guy though. That would get him back in the news for a bit. |

We've held their hands so long that they as a group have forgotten WHY we are there. Bring everybody home and let them realize WHY we were there in the first place. Then they can pay us to come back. |

Might as well bring them home. That whole prevent the spread of communism in China seems kind of moot now

The South doesn't really need us there. Not ground forces, anyway. As long as we're supplying them, flying top cover for them and brushing aside whatever leaky tubs the DPRK calls its navy, the ROK army can take care of business. |

Where were the DSS fellas? They're right up there with USSS about seriousness of protection. Not as many of course, but still, they aren't amateurs.

Key Resolve Exercise just started. DPRK always acts stupid(er) when US and ROK exercises happen.
There's a small ROK community that protests the exercises. Most ROKs are pretty pro-US at this time. It's varied historically. Violent behavior is really unusual, though. There was a veteran protest this weekend in Jong-ro district of Seoul. Lots of cops. The wife and I wandered on through because these things are just almost never violent. Actually had a bunch of the vets say Hi to us. I just got back yesterday from Seoul - she'll be back end of next week. Article said the guy's name was Kim. That's like 50% of Koreans. There's only six common family names in the whole country. ETA: Wife is watching on South Korean news right now - she says news is reporting the attacker as a "super crazy (Korean slang for old man)." |

Ambassador Mark Lippert is pretty well liked in South Korea. I recently read a article in a Korean Newspaper praising him. Here's a link to the article. 'Lippert-style' diplomacy in the making By the way this newspaper is one of the left leaning newspapers over there.
The man who attacked him is one of those crazy Pro-North liberals. There's a small minority of Pro-North/Socialists in South Korea, they're often vocal and violent. I call them the South Korean equivalent of Democrats. The South Korea government recently banned one of their parties. South Korea court bans 'pro-North' political party They also recently deported a Korean-American for praising North Korea. Korean-born American deported from South Korea for praising North |

He's a douche of the highest order but also the face of the US in SK.
It's amazing how much we've lost respect all over the globe |
