I bought a Polytech M14S 10 years ago NIB. I shot it a lot when I could get South African 7.62 for $28 per battle pack. My younger brother has been lusting over it from the moment of purchase. These days, he's making lots of money, and I haven't shot it in years. He's still bugging me about wanting to buy it, and I'm not in the position to afford to shoot the damn thing anymore. I'm also looking to expand my Glock collection and these two models are what I'm looking for. He'd order them brand new with Trijicon night sights, then trade me. Seems like a win-win, he'd get something he's always wanted, and I'll get 2 more carry guns to add to the rotation. What say the hive? Let me be clear, this would be for BOTH Glocks |
I have done trades like that for family.
Do it. he's blood. But if your looking if it is an equal cash value. No. Your chicom is worth a lot more than one glock |
I'm not a fan of selling things that I can't replace. Chinese rifles are out there but there's a limited supply.
No deal if it were me. |
If you want to give your brother a rifle, then just give your brother a rifle.
If you want Glocks, just go buy them yourself. That trade sounds complicated and time consuming. |
If it was a stranger, I wouldn't do it.
Maybe for family, yeah, as long as he would let you have the first chance to buy/trade for it back, should he want to get rid of it later. |
If you have a Glock "collection" and can't afford some rifle ammo then you're doing it wrong.
That being said, value is speculative. It's a bad trade considering price and availability but if you want two pistols and don't care about the rifle then do it. |
Aren't Chinese M14s sorta like transferable machineguns in that there is only a certain amount in the US and no more? They won't lose value like a Glock which can be easily replaced.
Personally I wouldn't do it.
As was mentioned, I might GIVE it to my brother. But that is only because he is my brother. I don't think the Glocks are worth the rifle. And I am a Glock fan boy |
he is your Brother. do it
Hell, he is your Brother, if you aren't using the rifle give it to him. |
As a guy who likes and carries glocks. I would not make that trade.
Value-wise, he would be getting a slightly better deal. I say go for it if you want. There are Springfield M1A's selling new online for $1070 shipped with 3 free 20rd mags. Most Polytechs I've seen sell for $800-1000.
I don't keep many guns that I don't shoot. I've sold plenty of guns (shitty SKSs and Mini-14s mostly) and never regretted selling any of them. Having said that, unless you really don't like that rifle, don't trade it.

If my brother wanted something badly that I no longer use, I'd just give it to him. I know he'd never sell it or trade it off without asking me first.
YMMV (Although it would be hard for me to turn down some handguns I want in trade.) |

That M14 isn't going to be easy to replace. If you aren't married to the rifle, make the trade. Keep in mind, it will continue to go up in value while the Glocks will depreciate.

You can't afford to shoot 7.62, but you can afford to smoke crack? That Polytech has a lot more value now than those Glocks do!
That's over $1,000 worth of Glocks. Chicom M14's are often in the $800 range. Did you replace the bolt in it or is it stock? I'd do it.

Hell No, I would almost drive out and make that trade.
Your M14s is worth a lot more. |
No, you can walk into any gun store and buy a glock cant do that with a polytech.

Love Glocks, are a great tool, but would not do it, I would not trade two glocks for an Service Grade M1.
I owned a Chinese M014/S.
I'd be all over that trade for two N.I.B. Glocks for it. It is NOT mil standard parts, the bolts are soft so someone is going to have to pony up to buy a good USGI bolt and have a competent gunsmith fit it. I'd be on that deal R.F.N if your brother is asking you to swap. BIGGER_HAMMER |

Rifle is 100% stock aside from a USGI fiberglass stock.
Gunbroker has them from between $800 and $1,200. Retail on the Glocks, with the upgraded Trijicons is what? $550 for the G19 and $650 or more for the G34? I realize that the G19 will be worth $350 in a year or two and the G34 might fetch a $20 bill more, but that's still more money than I have invested into the Polytech. That math has the Glocks in favor at current prices. Not to mention that I haven't shot it since before the Obummer administration. I was in love with it when I bought it at 17 or 18, but now, it's just a rifle I've had to move to three different states, and still can't afford to shoot. I reload, so $90 per/1k lead or $120 per/1k FMJ 9mm is doable. $350 per/1k FMJ blasting .308 is not. Future value of the rifle aside, trading one of something I haven't shot in 6 or 7 years for 2 somethings that I actually could seemed (and still seems) like a no-brainer. I've still got a gun-room with 2 AK's, 3 AR's, 700 Tac in .308, and more shotguns and pistols. Thanks for all the input, positive and negative. |

You know where your family lives so you could always get it back at some point as long as he held on to it. |
