That's the big crime gun arsenal? I think the only one of those guns designed in the last 60 years is the Hi-Point.

Prohibition is still on? View Quote It is in some states, especially in the South. Here in Virginia, we created an agency (ABC) that has an exclusive right to sell liquor. They don't like competition, and they have "special agents" who enforce these rules. They're like The Untouchables, except they're all idiots with questionable judgment and ethics. |

If they ever REALLY came after moonshine, it would be rather interesting here in my area.
That song "Copperhead Road" is about our hometown and the truth is stranger than fiction. It is MUCH more prevalent than most would believe. Most LE and folks around here could care less about moonshine; meth on the other hand is a big problem. |

View Quote It's pretty much the same in rural Virginia. There's probably dozens of identical stills run by some guy with a bunch of Fudd guns, within a 10 miles radius of the one that these Very Special Agents from VA ABC busted. Yawn. I feel so much safer. |

I think it's bull shit that this guys in jail for distilling. I fully support people who break tax laws like this. Because he's not in trouble for distilling. He's in trouble for not paying to play.

There shouldn't be licensing and regulations around distilling, let the free market handle it. When people start going blind, others will know not to purchase from distiller X and the market will adjust, eventually. View Quote Only people to go blind from moonshine were purposely poisoned by our Government to scare people away from buying it. |

From the pictures, it looks like he was a guy who liked to hunt and liked his shine. Nothing wrong with either, but let's be honest, the .gov didn't go after him because the .gov hates freedom, or hates good guys, they went after him because he was manufacturing and selling alchohol without licenses and without paying taxes. Frankly, I find it outrageous there is a separate charge because he was selling moonshine while in possession of a legal firearm. And I don't think the penalty for avoiding some alcohol taxes should be felony. I'd also be willing to say maybe even making some moonshine and selling it shouldn't even be a crime. But no matter how nice a guy, he had to know what he was doing was currently illegal and that there was a government agency who basically owes their existence to arresting people for what he was doing. There's the old saying about what happens when you play stupid games... View Quote I find it more outrageous that they went to his house and siezed all of his guns, not just the one he was carrying at the time. |
