Originals weren't available to movie makers then.

Most of the "correct" equipment you see in modern WWII films are either from reenactor groups which made their own mock-ups (cold war era Russian tanks welded up to look like tigers, surplus modified Czech half-tracks) or computer animated, neither which were available in the 60's.

Just like if you wanted an ME109 in a scene it was most likely going to be a P51 repainted. The millionaire restorations of 2 originals outside museums were not available nor was computer animation. Though there was some post war Spanish copies of ME109's and HE111's available for the 60's movie "Battle of Britain"...that was about as good as it got then.

The post-war American tanks as panzer's in Patton ruined it as a candidate for "best."  Good movie, sure, not best.  You have to at least attempt to get the details right.

Those were only available because they had only just left Spanish service. As for the RAF aircraft, the film actually managed to save many and indeed created interest in preserving and restoring more. There are now 4 times as many flying Hurricanes  than existed at the time of filming, for example.

There are so many war movies that I truly love it is difficult to set one ahead as BEST. I'm almost 49.

Someone made the good point that if other movies were TEN hours long, they'd be as good as, or maybe better than, BoB.
This is true, I think.

I......can't name a "Best" war movie. I have my favorites, though. Here's some of them:

All Quiet On The Western Front,
The Lost Battalion (the one with Ricky Schroeder),
BoB,
SPR,
Kelly's Hero's,
Gettysburg and God's And Generals
Last of The Mohican's,
Anzacs,
Stalingrad,
Cross of Iron.
Inglorious Basterds,
Fury,
The Thin Red Line (SMALL parts of it, to be sure)
Apocalypse Now and Platoon (again, PARTS of them),
Siege of Firebase Gloria,
84 Charlie Mopic,
We Were Soldiers,
Hamburger Hill,
Fort Apache,
The Big Red One,
Gladiator,
Kingdom Of Heaven,
Memphis Belle,
Where Eagles Dare,
300,
Heartbreak Ridge,
Master And Commander,

And a bunch more I can't remember off the top of my head

2 - Saving Private Ryan
3 - We Were Soldiers
4 - Black Hawk Down
5 - Lone Survivor
6 - FMJ

If we include documentaries, The Hornest's Nest, Restrepo, Combat Rescue.

I did too, until I deployed and realized all those stereotypes exist. Wives really do chat about bullshit one day and then find out one of their husbands got his legs blown off the next day. Boot LTs really do fight for glory and country. Crusty NCOs really do give zero fucks after multiple deployments.

That pretty much covers it except I'd leave Heartbreak Ridge off the list.  It was just silly.

This. Zulu comes in a very close second.

And then there's Waterloo, with Christopher Plummer & Rod Steiger. And Das Boot; can't forget about that one.

Heartbreak Ridge is THE best dramatization of the Invasion of Grenada ever made.

Zulu (1964)

If it's a miracle Colour Sergeant, it's a short chamber boxer Henry, point 4-5 caliber miracle.

.. And a bayonet, sir, with some guts behind it.

Outstanding war film with a very young Michael Cain.

Last of the Mohicans. A war for empire in North America. It was a big deal that is often relegated to a couple of paragraphs in history books.

Of the ones I've seen--and there's plenty I haven't--Restrepo would get my vote.
