3/4 karat gold band and wedding band in 1980 $1600 Jewelers Row in Chicago. Paid cash, which meant that I basically signed over that weeks construction check.

It blows my mind why anyone would spend more than $1000 on an engagement ring. /Never been married. When you get to be a big boy you'll see it's not that much compared to what you're getting. I spent 7k on the band alone for a high quality 1karet. Diamonds are a fucking scam and I wouldn't have married a woman who didn't agree with me. "Big Boy".. lol. Big sucker is more like it. Bet you two are a blast out on the social circuit. How many guns did you have to sell to afford the rock? |

Bought a 1.04 ct VS1 dia ring from International Jewelers in Lynnwood WA in 1995 for $3500
Probably retails for close to double that now - I might be able to break even selling it locally. It is sitting on the top shelf of 1 of my gun safes ( not on a finger ) |

$2800 engagement ring, $1200 matching wedding band. Nowhere near what the ridiculous rule of thumb said to spend.

A good friend of mine sold his bass boat to buy his fiancee an $18k ring she demanded. Don't do that.

$750 for her bridal set in 2001. 14 years later she won't let me upgrade it. I'm getting her a nice Past, Present and Future next year. And a honeymoon. We were poor poor poor and made bad decisions as a young couple but there's no one else on earth I'd want to have my back. Life gets better and better with her.

About 1k, and that includes the tools. I bought a loose rock, cast the ring myself and did the mounting.
Now I just need to find the lady to go with it.... |

Big enough but not massive/gaudy (she's very petite) = around 1ct
Very high quality (E color, ideal cut, clarity- nothing visible to the naked eye). Salary etc wasn't relevant, more interested in getting an attractive traditional ring. She's always been very happy with it and if she wants massive diamonds she can wear the much cheaper artificial ones we have that look real but don't come with the 100k+ price tag. (They look so good her CEO asked if they were paying her too much ) |

So for the very small percentage of members here who aren't afraid of women, when it came time to propose how much did you spend on the ring? View Quote I spent 8 weeks with my jewler looking at diamonds (25 years ago) {Jewler was a friend who participated in the same hobbies.} I spent $8K on the diamond, it was appraised at $12K, and he threw in the ring part for free. |

2500 for the ring and band. About 5% of my salary at the time I think.

in '85 my sisters best friend said one rule of thumb was about 6 weeks pay...
Things were good back then, 24 with my own business, the best jeweler in town didn't have one worth that much :) Of course it worked out about as most guys suspect, divorce will be final this month... |

$3,000 for a .75 carat princess cut in a halo setting with a rose gold ring.

I want to say my bridal set total was around $1200 in 1990. Jewelry lasts forever. No reason to be stupid or stingy.
I would like an anniversary band of sorts but maybe not. I don't need any more. Of course, I don't need anymore firearms and I am sure I will get more of those. |
|
$87.00
it does not really matter if she loves you. it could be $100 or $10,000. talk to her some about what you want to spend your money on, a ring, honeymoon, pay off student loans, put money down on a house, etc. it also is highly dependent on your income. |
|
$0.00. we eere too poor to buy that. now we have money, seems unimportant to both of us.
|

Managed to pay cash for it while making a mortgage payment and raising a kid at the age of 22.
I shopped around and got the absolute nicest ring I could afford. .75 carat and super good quality. She still gets compliments on it on a weekly basis at work not even exaggerating. Scoring that ring is one thing I did in life that I'm proud of lol. |

$1K. Best money I ever spent. When my wife looks at her ring, she knows that I didn't bat an eye at the price.
Are diamond rings a good investment? No. Is a wife who is happy every time she looks at her hand a good investment? Oh, hell yes! |

Quoted: $700 in 2001 when we were young and poor. $7500 in 2008 after having a job and deciding that she deserved an upgrade. ETA: Lo, arfcom, where you should cash in your 401K to buy gold, but jewelry is a scam. View Quote |

Sold my '79 z28 to get her a $4000 ring in 1998.
She lost it in 2010. I went out and bought a '73 z28 to get her back. |

23 dollars. I used my moms old ring. I traded the yellow gold for white and set the diamond myself. The 23 bucks was the price difference for the band. It was nice working ng in a jewelry store at the time

$225. Didn't give her a diamond, and she couldn't care less. We started our marriage with me working 4 jobs to pay our bills while we were both going to school.

$1200 for a 1.25 carat solitaire. Her parents own a pawnshop and she had picked out the ring years before, I just paid what they had in it.

Quoted: This. Also, great return policy if the marriage suffers the arfcom curse.
