It's a feature that keeps them tumbling in mid-air when they're shot upwards. Carry on.

A little time spent on the AK boards here would have told you to watch out for certain Century Tantals, as they have barrels with the incorrect bore diameter.

Some of the Century guns started off with 5.56 barrel blanks with 5.45 chambers. Often, it didn't work.
The IO guns were made with Polish barrels but had shitty assembly. |

Did you just now buy this Tantal used?
You have to know exactly what serial number range & prefix to look for when buying these used. Unfortunately short of a barrel replacement, you're boned. If it's one of the models that had the correct .220 bore, but had the wrong twist rate for surplus 5.45x39, you may be able to get away shooting the heavier grain commercial 5.45. If it has the .223 bore you're screwed. New barrel. Bullet test is easy for this - the .223 barrel will swallow the entire 5.45 bullet at the muzzle once you've removed the muzzle device. |

Notice how when you fold the stock, it fits perfectly into a trash can?

I'm curious. How much are barrels?
Is it worth it to replace it? |

Huh. I have one of those that's been collecting dust for the last few years.
Haven't shot it yet. I wonder... I don't suppose there's an external way to tell? |

A guy I know that was in Nam said the VC used AKs like that. The tumbling bullet would rip an arm clean off. They were brutal! Is it a bring back?

I wonder if Century will still do anything about it. |

A Bulgy barrel wont work with the Tantal muzzle brake. Not sure if the Tantal rear sight base will fit either. |

Everything you say OP from here out will be discredited due to the model trains spotted in the first picture... You like imitation crab meat?

Mine wasn't made by Century and has the chrome lined, no key holing, barrel. Loud as fuck but handles like a .22LR, cheap to shoot too.

More blunt force trauma with the rounds tumbling. Looks like an aerial view of a naval battle.
Century 5.45mm would be my guess. Should have researched a bit more. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

TTL serial # prefix? That's the problem child range. Also, pop the top cover off and look and see if there is a serial number on the barrel.. Polish barrel would be serialed to the trunion. American made barrels have no seial number if I remember correct. Bulgy barrels will not work without a lot of tinkering.

I had a 2007 1894SS that literally shot just like that. A trip back to Marlin and it now shot 8" at 100 yds. with the best reloads I could come up with. Dumped it and a few years later pick up a blued used one. It was much better.
