A poll by the Pew Research Center suggests that Snowden's revelations have not much changed the public's favorable view of the NSA. Younger people (under 30) tend to view the NSA favorably, compared to those 65 and older. 61% of people aged 18-29 viewed the NSA favorably, while 30% viewed the NSA unfavorably and 9% had no opinion. 55% of people aged 30-49 viewed the NSA favorably. At the 65+ age bracket, only 40% of people viewed the NSA favorably.

Maybe the NSA just hacked the poll.
Or what's more likely is that the average person doesn't even know what the NSA is. |

mehhh...they will come around after they live a little....most younger people are still under the parental umbrella at 30 whether they realize it or not.....life will slap them around and they will gain life experience but for now its still "yeah everyone gets a trophy"

Social media has effectively desensitized people to being on display. Privacy is not valued anymore, and anyone who wishes to keep things private is seen as weird or backwards. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

I've seen a number of polls which would suggest that young people in this country are very comfortable with the idea of a powerful, controlling, government.

[#17]
But it's the National Security Agency! Who isn't in favor of national security?
|
|
[#19]
I didn't read it but did they phrase the question like "do you like being protected from terrorists?"

As the Stoics said, if you can't change the situation, you can still change yourself. Resisting big brother will only raise your blood pressure and auditing chances - better to love him.
The youth develop protective coloration fast. |

frankly i'm surprised GD doesn't view them favorably as well.

I can't think of anyone I know in that age bracket that favors the data collection and domestic spying. However they do tend to think space stuff is cool while being largely ignorant on any related topic. I have a hard time believing the NSA is actually that well thought of with them. |

I think you can ask 20 random younger folks in a mall what was the #1 reason we lost WWII and they will give you an answer.

Another possibility is that the younger people polled either didn't know what the NSA was or hadn't heard all the reports about the domestic spying. |

The younger "look at me" generation embraces Fazebook and other forms of social media and eagerly post every private detail of their meaningless lives on it. Not surprisingly, the Nasty Spy Agency laps it all up. Truly you get the government you deserve.

It isn't the NSA I have a problem with, it is the warrantless wiretapping and violation of their own charter that I have a problem with.

Both of our claims are arguable. NSA has more data than it knows what to do with, and gulags do a great job of dividing a country into the the watched and the watchers. I think Americans are quite accustomed to government surveillance, but I'm not sure how ready they are for gulags. A factor that's interesting to me is how many kids are growing up with dystopian fiction. Hunger Games, Maze Runner, hell, even Harry Potter- all have dysfunctional, abusive governments and kids are watching the movies or even reading the books for school. I hope it makes a difference. |

What do you expect?
My generation has never known what it was like to live under a small government and be self-reliant. |
