I've been drinking whiskey for a while and I'd like to think I pretty much have it figured out. Looking for a bit of a change, so I'm thinking about getting in to Gin. I bought a bottle of Hedrick's, it tastes pretty damn good, but I'm not sure how to drink it. Just drinking it neat like I do whiskey not sure if that's the best way. What brands do you all recommend? How do most of you drink it? |
I love Brokers Gin. It's my go-to. There a lots of other brands and the flavors vary.
I love a good gin and tonic, a martini, Tom Collins, whatever. Gin is awesome. |
Never could develop a taste for gin. I keep it on hand for others, but it smells like Pine Sol to me and doesn't taste much better.
I love whiskey, vodka and tequila, but I'll pass on gin. |
Not a huge fan of gin... But every once and a while I'll buy a bottle of Bombay Sapphire.
Usually mix it with this blue raspberry ghetto juice I get at the gas station! Lol Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Hendricks is so nice it seems a shame to mix it. Plus it's expensive.
I was also partial to gin and bitter lemon. Give that a try. |
I like hendricks
Gin, tonic and a splash of hypnotiq (if that's how you spell it) |
Hendrick's is good stuff and drink it with a splash of lime or on the rocks with a cucumber slice
I mix cheaper gin with tonic water or if I'm feeling ghetto mix it with white grapefruit juice I prefer gin as a Summer time drink. |
Try Citadelle next. Like other liquors, there's a lot of variety out there.
Beefeaters, couple of ice cube tray ice cube s, not the smaller ice machine cubes, and a couple of good queen olives.
I drink gin, I drink lots of gin....
My usual goto gins in no particular order are: Bombay Red Bombay Saphire Beefeater Tanqueray Hendricks Gordons (for inexpensive) Gins I really hate: New Amsterdam Seagram's |
Gin and Tonic with double lime
Gin martini Gin and bitters For what it's worth I like Tanqueray. |

Gin Martini.
3oz Gin ( Bombay Sapphire or Seagram's maybe ) 3/4 oz Vermouth Splash of Olive Juice " Shaken " over ice. Throw in a few olives Gin and Tonic is good to. Any gin will work with it imo. |
I prefer Hendricks , Old Raj , & Uncle Val's .
Gin & tonic all the way but I have had some rather fancy gin cocktails such as the Ambrosia (fresh raspberries, sweet vermouth, Hendricks gin, freshly squeezed orange juice and a couple dashes of bitters) and something involving gin & absinthe sorbet .......rough night don't remember the details . |
Haven't seen it mentioned yet, however Plymouth has been my go to gin as of late. I prefer it over hendricks/beefeater/bombay. Tanqueray 10 is also another good one IMO. Gin is much more of a summer drink for me though, I stick with my Rye's through these winters (as I'm staring down the first sizeable snow storm in N. IL this winter)
I don't know what you call it, but . . .
4 parts Hendrick's Gin 1 part Grand Marnier Shake/stir with ice, strain into a cocktail glass, and serve with bleu cheese olives. |

I prefert Beefeater. I have the last bottles of something called "Beefeater Wet" in my stash.
Barring that, Gordons is pretty damn good for the price. Death's Door is good. As well as Hendrick's (as you discovered.) There are about 6 types of rather expensive flavored gins (Wet is one of them) that are worth picking up. ---- How to drink Gin: - with Monster on ice - Martinis (whole thread topic on it's own) - With seltzer and ice, add a lime, or a slice of cucumber or two (or muddle these) - In a bloody mary - with diet Canada Dry tonic, the other stuff is too sweet. GIN DRINKS SHOULD NOT BE SWEET. - on the rocks with some olives and a little olive juice (about three drops) Be cautious with the first one. I've had some rough weekends starting out with that...

It is a curious fact, and one to which no one knows quite how much importance to attach, that something like 85% of all known worlds in the Galaxy, be they primitive or highly advanced, have invented a drink called jynnan tonnyx, or gee-N’N-T’N-ix, or jinond-o-nicks, or any one of a thousand or more variations on the same phonetic theme. The drinks themselves are not the same, and vary between the Sivolvian "chinanto/mnigs” which is ordinary water served at slightly above room temperature, and the Gagrakackan "tzjin-anthony-ks” which kills cows at a hundred paces; and in fact the one common factor between all of them, beyond the fact that the names sound the same, is that they were all invented and named before the worlds concerned made contact with any other worlds. Tanqueray for me. |
I prefer Tanqueray with tonic, on the rocks, with a twist of lime.
Gin and tonic,
iced gin with lime martini I like Hendricks but I find new Amsterdam is damn hard to beat for the price |
Bombay Sapphire and tonic, w/lime.
Hendricks and tonic, slice of cucumber. Best in summer. Starting to like Jameson's Black Barrel for a winter drink. |
Sapphire, Hendricks...
Anyone else try Plymouth? Seems to have a lighter juniper taste. |
I prefer other flavored vodkas, but juniper-flavored is okay.
2 parts Gordon's, 1 part Rose's Sweetened lime juice makes a Gimlet, official drink of the Royal Navy.
Mix up the ratios as the night goes on. |

View Quote +1 fro Broker's, I really enjoy it. I am also a fan of Bombay Sapphire and Beefeater though they are different in flavor profile. Sometimes I want to drink a pine cone, sometimes not.

I think Citadelle is my current favorite. I don't care much for Hendricks .

For the money New Amsterdam is hard to beat, for sure. Botanist is a really nice new gin from Islay Scotland but it's expensive like Hendricks. |

Fucking nasty. But New Amsterdam is good IMHO. |

How does one acquire a taste for hard alcohol? I cannot imagine anyone sitting down and having their first drink of something like whiskey and saying to themselves "man, this taste like the nectar of the gods". All spirits pretty much taste the same to me, like a mouthful of alcohol.
