I didn't meet him, but Tim Duncan was eating two tables over from us once. I wanted an autograph, but didn't want to be a dick and interrupt his family's dinner.
My band was recording in Austin to help one of our friends who was going to school as an audio engineer. Sheryl Crowe and Lance Armstrong came in for a tour of the studio and we got kicked out while that happened. That's about all my brushes with celebrity. |

Senator Hillary Rodthem Clinton after 9-11
Senator Chuck U. Schumer same same You didn't say they couldn't be despicable people, you just said famous. Steve Forbes after he parked his boat with the helicopter on the aft deck. OK, I'm sure a paid captain docked it for him. Oh for someone who is actually a hero and a very cool officer Col. John Ripley awarded the Navy Cross for an amazing feat at the Dong Ha bridge. I read the book about his actions there and was in awe of what one man could do. A year or so after reading the book our reserve unit was at LeJeune for training. Our company was a round out to his command should things ever pop. I drove him around the ranges as he observed our unit sections training. I didn't realize it was the man I read about in the book at the time. All I knew at the time he was a very personable officer and asked me all sorts of questions about my college education and what I was planning on doing in life. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Ripley_%28USMC%29 |

Iron Maiden, most notably Dave Murray and Nicko McBrian. I'm in Bratislava last summer at the Kempinski Hotel looking to watch the Italy/England World Cup match and smoke a couple Cubans. I select a table out on the back patio, where they have four big screens set up ready for the match. I'm the only one there. When the waiter brings me my previously ordered drinks, he said I will be in good company. The set up was for the band, but they had no problem with me hanging out. Dave, Nicko and some American chick came out and sat at the table next to me and the party was on. By the end of the first half most of the rest of the band and crew were there, but I didn't officially meet anyone else. Very cool, but I lost points cheering for Italy; obviously they were rooting for England.

Tina Turner. 1982 she stayed at the Meridien Hotel in Houston, TX. I was working the p.m. shift when she ordered room service. I talked the room service crew into letting me go up and present the food she ordered. She was a very hot mess.

I met Paul Tagliabue (old NFL Commissioner) one afternoon on my submarine....
The ProBowl was going on and we had him and some Raiderettes down for a tour... I was in the control room and he came in for my part of the tour. He asked me what I did, I told him and helped him look through the periscope... I then asked him what he did. He seemed surprised that I did not know who he was... He said he was the 'NFL Commissioner', I told him that 'sounded like a pretty important position'... he replied something like 'some people think so'.... I was obviously more interested in the Raiderettes than him |

Nobody special, but I was stationed with Scott Baio's cousin in 1991-2. He was kicked out for smoking pot.

Perry Farrell was probably the most famous famous person I've ever had a conversation with. I met Rodney Dangerfield on Venice Beach and sat next to "Eddie Munster" on a plane when I was little. Once, when I participated in a dog and pony show on the beach at Camp Pendelton, I shook hands and exchanged greetings with the commandants of the American, Philippine, South Korean, and Thai Marines. I also met Trent Reznor and the guy that sang "Hey Man, Nice Shot" or whatever.
ETA: And Rudy Ray Moore. |

Shook hands with and got an autograph from Gordie Howe.
