I am going to screw in a serpa holster under a bottom shelf in our bathroom linen closet for my wife's G26.  Does anyone have any other good spots around the house that will: 1., not be easily found by kids or crooks if house is broken into.  and 2:, be easily accessible.  BTW,  wearing a sidearm while I'm at the house playing with my kids is just not an option.

We had a break in earlier this year. The guy already did the stabby stabby to three people, if I wasn't carrying a pistol I don't know what would have happened.

With a 10 & 12 year old, no matter how well taught, they (or their friends) will still be prone to make bad decisions. I'd go with IWB/OWB and the gunsafe only. The odds of them or their friends finding the guns far outweigh the odds of a home invasion.

In the wall safes, things like those false front clocks or mirrors  that hide a gun
That ought to address your concerns about strange kids in the house not accessing your firearms without your knowledge

On your person is the only right answer.

With SMALL kids-up HIGH and out of sight.  I kept rounds out of chambers.....or mags out but next to the weapon.

By the time they are shooters themselves-where they can get to them if need be.

Alternatively,

Get a bunch of "Gun Free Zone" signs and place them all around your property. This should solve the problem.

Also, stock up on cases of soup cans and teach the kids to throw them at the intruder. This is being rolled out in a number of schools...

First line of defense is your perimeter.  No point in having dozens of stashes when they surprise you.  Enhance your security locks and get an alarm, this buys you time.

Then invest in a good quick access lockbox, so it's secure from the kids and you can still get to it quickly.

Drop ceilings and attic space are areas I have come up with.

I also have a small false area framed off in my bathroom that the contractor framed to make the shower fit.  With a false ceiling I could get items in and out of it.

Especially since I have a visible gunsafe, I should use more hiding places since they may assume everything is locked up.

You do realize of course in the state of Texas having those guns in easy reach of minor children could land you in some serious trouble.
With kids that young as well as the possibilty that a friend of a friend that is not so trustworthy might find one is bad ju-ju.
If you are going to store them in the house then at least buy some of those quick access pistol safes and find some place to physically secure those boxes.
In my case since I live alone I have a pistol near the front door  in a fake plant container that is five feet up on the wall and another in the nightstand by the bed.

I made something similar to this:

http://www.amazon.com/BLACK-HAWK-INC-40BH00BK-Holster-Ambidextrous/dp/B007ZNU532/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1422545518&sr=8-2&keywords=bedside+holster

Out of some plywood and an extra holster I had laying around. At night I keep my handgun in it with an extra mag or two, along with a small flashlight. The first thing I do when I wake up is remove the extra mags and handgun, and then put them in my lock box that's in our closet.

I remember as a young kid (7/8 yrs ?) getting out dads loaded .38 spl. from his nightstand and playing with it a couple times, once with my little brother present

Yeah, so since I remember doing that, all of my *home defense* firearms are up, hidden and out of reach for kids. Still easily within reach for me though

Long story short, a home invasion happened in our neighborhood (in Texas) this past Sunday night and the home owner had a shoot out with the intruders.  The story is on TheBlaze.com.  There were over 30 shots fired between the homeowner and the POSs.  Fortunately the homeowner was able to get to his pistol quickly or it would have been a bad situation.  I'm looking for ideas and suggestions on where the best places to hide handguns throughout the house.  I do have two kiddos (10 and 12) and they have been taught/trained to never touch any of my firearms, but I still need to be careful about their friends coming over.  Any suggestions or pics would be greatly appreciated.

You need a locking box anyway. I have pistol safes in the bedroom, garage and both cars. I made a add-on wall shelf with a drawer into a hidden safe, but you can get ready-made wall safes or Tactical Walls.

Good ideas for gun hides here.  Lots of comments on kids, I have a thought.  I have a 15 YO son who is the only person in the world besides me who knows how to get in the gun room and where the house guns are.  He has been shooting for most of his life, we have a farm so there are no neighbor kids and a firearm is a necessary tool.  There is no mystique in them he can use them any time he wants.

I'd trust my son with my life or trust him to protect his mother & sister; he's capable accurate quick & safe.  There are far fewer racoons & skunks in the valley because of him.  Know your kids and make the right decision based on them and your situation.

This.

At twelve I kept a shotgun leaning against my wall in my room. I got it for Christmas. Was told I would lose it if I was caught fucking around with it with my friends.

I don't necessarily understand keeping a gun randomly in multiple rooms in random. If you are that serious get a good holster and stick with it. Your kids WILL find them and when they figure out there are hidden guns it will become a game where they try to find the forbidden gun from call of duty.
