.....horse was feeding around 20 feet from a barn and 70 feet from a home.

"All of a sudden (the owners) heard a commotion," he said.

"There was a pack of coyotes that had taken the horse down," said Osmon of the mare, or an adult female horse, before the animals were chased off by dogs on the property.

Unfortunately they ganged up on this mare and drug her down from the back," he said, with the incident also posted on the mounted unit's Facebook page. "We just need to get out to the community there is a danger right now.

"It could have been a kid or adult," Osmon said. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Oakland County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene along with the Lapeer County Sheriff's Department.

They are just like dogs and all they need is love and compassion. How people can hate such a beautiful animal is beyond me.

"Stay clear of coyotes"? I don't think so.

I go looking for them. If more people went looking for them, we'd have less of a problem.

I live in the middle of the Metroplex and unfortunately I can't shoot the bastards.

One fucktard at my old apartment complex used to put food out for them.

DEATH TO COYOTES!

My father has had coyotes drag newborn holstein calves off. They've also attacked down cows (partially eat them). But their limits are pretty low, he leaves young calves out in pasture and they're never bothered. Full size cows aren't bothered either. These aren't little coyotes, the neighbors shoot them fairly regularly and they look like full grown wolves. As scary as they seem like they could be, I've never heard from people around here of them going after anything but deer and little critters.

There a nuclear power plant nearby?

I hate me some coyotes and all, but why are the cops still using horses? Horses are like a 4-wheeler that you have to put gas in and take in for repairs even if you haven't been riding the damned thing. Sounds like a waste of money and resources to still be using horses.

Had 3 coyotes attack my small herd of goats. Luckily, I stopped them before they did any damage

Interesting, in that they circled the goats until they were in a tight ball, much like large fish balling up baitfish

This is true; I saw a documentary about the event on TV.  Some coyotes here in northern PA, upstate NY, New England, and Canada are confirmed to be part wolf.  I'm sure it's the same in Michigan.  In recent years, I've seen a lot of bigger coyotes which I believe may be wolf/coyote hybrids.

I have a trail cam mounted near my home on our 90 acres of land.  I check it once a week and other than deer, coyotes are the most common animal I get pictures of.  Here's a pic from last Saturday morning:

I live about 25 miles outside of Chitcago, from a suburb just west of Crook county, driving to sub in Crook county I regularly see them hanging around a couple of cemeteries I drive by on my way to work.
