Wanna hear something really cool?
I heard a story on NPR the other day. Scientists figured out that the eye doesn't really see, right? It just sends electrical impulses back to your brain, and your brain composes the image of that we "see" in our mind. Our eyes don't capture an image like film, they just process it into data and submit it to our brain. Well they took this blind girl, and hooked up a camera to a piece of titanium about the size of a postage stamp. A piece of software translated what the camera sees into electrical impulses, which are pulsed through the piece of titanium. The girl holds the piece of titanium on her tongue. After a couple months of using the device and therapy with it, the formerly blind girl gained the ability to see rough shapes and objects using the device. She wears glasses with a small camera in them, and can walk around and see people, things, cars, light, etc. She can't make out the features of an individual person or see anything really detailed, but she can navigate the streets of NYC just fine and tell if you're a man or woman or not, or what color a lamp is, etc. I found this amazing. I mean, these guys used a camera lens and software to emulate the process of the human eye sending data to the brain. A girl's brain started seeing things....without the use of her eyes. How cool is that? |

Can we talk about the archery guy? I know that's sort of like sniping but with a medieval/Legolas-ish kind of twist, but it's not American Sniper, so that should count, right? Or shouldn't count. Or... something like that.
