if dupe, please delete. They went to the wrong house from misidentifying the phone number a bomb threat came from. No warrant but exigent circumstances? The police chief borrowed a vest just a few minutes prior to kicking down the door. He was hit in the chest 3 times, once in the arm. He is damn lucky and so is the home owner. They were supposedly yelling "police" when they charged into the wrong house. |
|
Just throw some charges at the officers for invading a man's home out of incompetence and we can call it a day.

That report didn't make a lot of sense and was very short on information.

Ineptitude when identifying the right house? Unfortunately, not an isolated incident.
|
|
Bet that chief is a lot more careful about who's door he kicks down in the future.
|
|
He'll start putting in a tiny bit of effort in identifying the right addresses going forward.

I'm not going to say good shoot because it isn't. Good shoots are for bad guys. I would however like to dig up a bunch of threads to get all those quotes about how the homeowner would be dead or in jail if he shot at those raiding a wrong address.
|
|
Saw this story on Facebook last night ('Brady Banned Me' page IIRC). Wasn't the lib press spinning this to say the homeowner was a rabid anti-cop gun nut, and never mentioned anything about a wrong address? Article basically said a white, racist, anti-cop Internet commando called in a bomb threat, when the police arrived he shot the chief three times, and because he's white the police just left and went home.
Chief seems REALLY understanding if he got shot three times...wrong address or not. |

LE screwed the pooch and took a few rounds. Thankfully he was wearing a vest. That lesson will have more meaning than some charges that evaporate in 6 months. Preferably, they will reevaluate the process for no knocks. Everything from risk analysis to intel gathering and confirmation. Monday am qb'ing is easy...but they still should cover the basics before heading out. Provided the homewowner isn't some tweaker, he should get an apology and a nice fruit plate. This incident could've ended very badly. |

Hunh. The use of the word "while" in the thread title would have been helpful. I was thinking the police chief wasn't charged for his actions.

Chief is lucky home owner didn't subscribe to the standard advice around here for an HD gun. Would have been DRT.
And to the poster who suggested we're a bunch of adolescents looking to shoot cops and jack off thinking about it. If it weren't against the coc to tell you to fuck off, I would. |

Where's the part where the chief shoots at the house? View Quote That's how I read the thread title too. Insane situation. Three to the chest and one in the arm and he goes to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. I mean damn thats crazy. Id buy a lotto ticket if I were him. Good to know the home owner won't face charges. |

I like it! Typical Psycho black wearing, zombie hunting, survivalist. Shooting everyone who kicks in his door and invades his home waving guns around. When will people learn that guns are icky and all must comply or die? He should just feel lucky and thankful that no one came in his home and shot him. It's part of living in the USA that we must all accept. It's for our safety. |

They aren't giving out a lot of information.
To be fair, they didn't have time for a warrant with the kids in school. They really screwed up on the phone trace. They had cleared the front of the house and were checking bedrooms from my understanding. There were not other cops behind the chief when he checked the bedroom the homeowner and wife retreated too. The homeowner and his wife are damn lucky they weren't shot immediately. I can understand how this happened in a real hurry when no warrant was issued. The phone trace screw up is the problem. I am glad the chief wasn't killed or the home owner would have died or faced charges even if it was monumental mistake. |

I heard about this the afternoon it happened, then the story went away. I told my wife that something was odd about it.

No, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is doing the investigation. They aren't noted for being real sharp. The homeowner will be probed in all orifices and be charged with something i'm sure. FWIW I've been told most Oklahoma small towns don't have SWAT teams so they have many LE agencies forming one team to use in several rural counties. These cops did this in a hurry to protect kids at school. I'll give them credit for that. |
