I disagree and agree with this comment :

Honda is wrong on this. It left the sport. Then it decides to sit around and watch the 2014 season. It was learning countless things chief among which is packaging the motor and the chassis perfectly (like Mercedes proved).

Honda and Mclaren enters this season with more of an advantage than reigning 2013 champions Red Bull and Renault did going into 2014.

And they also want to run five engines "because that's how it was in the past". That is the final straw.

Here's a summary:

1. Honda leaves the sport so fast, people who worked there don't even know if they'll be employed in F1.

2. Honda sits and watches and learns and tests through 2014, having more time than Renault did most likely.

3. Now they want the same rules as 2014

Honda is likely throwing a bigger tantrum because Alonso is driving for them, and I'm sure he has negotiated some favorable exit clauses into his contract.

It's all pretty much as I see it.. but there's entirely too much regulation anyway, so by default I would agree with it.  I also think the engine limit is fucking stupid too.  1 Engine per weekend was always, to my feeling, the way to go.. that way no one gets fucked out of more than one race if something randomly decides to blow up.

preaching to the choir dear Sir..

And spending millions more on simulator and threadmills instead of testing on a track, to limit costs....?  come on......

the funniest part is Honda wanting the 2015 rules exceptions as per engine evolutions, BUT the 2014 rules as per number of engine available (5 instead of 4...)  Seriously ?

Yeah, they [Honda] kinda shoved their collective dicks in the meat grinder with that one.. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.. but I bet the rulemakers end up doing something that pisses off everyone, including the fans.  They are getting good at that.

I'm really sad to hear that about Ferrari.. But I don't think all hope is lost, they have a pretty distinct possibility of beating Mclaren this year, since it sounds like Honda will be down on power also.  This all depending on Vettel being able to do at least as well in the car as Alonso did, which is up in the air right now.  Red Bull will be another wild card as we don't know how much Newey had to do with this year's design either.

I do hope Williams pulls out a win, they deserve it after all these years.

Looks like a remarkably fair resolution to engine update loophole

Appears that Honda will be limited to 4 engines / driver but will receive some tokens for use this year

That technical change would probably need more than a year notice. The big tires are such an integral part of the suspension and from my understanding take much of the shock absorption. Lots of new calculations would need to be made for 18's.

Still, I agree that they need wheels bigger than 13".
Link Posted: 1/26/2015 7:38:53 PM EDT
[#42]
I would split the difference on tire size.. The 18s make the cars look like Donks, but I think 16s would look damn good.

I don't see it happening for a while though.. there would have to be some fundamental changes to how F1 suspension is engineered as the current tires provide a majority of the shock absorption on the cars.
