My 55" Insignia just died for the second time in four years. What brand for new TV?
I'm thinking of buying an el cheapo with an extended warranty if these new TVs are just going to barely outlast the factory warranty. Bad idea? 46"-55" Budget is cheap. Pedestal mount. DVDs and a few blue rays. Update- Off to Sears and Sams shortly when they open. It looks like Samsung or Visio. I'll see what I can come up with. Update 2.87- Fent on Visio M series 55". Thanks for the help guys! |

Our Samsung just took a shit after almost 6 years it started getting vertical blue lines on the screen. I just replaced it with a 56" Sony.
My Samsung laptop took a shit on me after about two years and quit charging the battery. It'll take a lot for me to go back to Samsung for anything. |

Fuck Samsung, The two I bought went to crap after a short time. Just picked up a 60" Vizio for $800. I 'm about to set it up.

Are there any honest TV repair shops in CA? Could be a simple $50-75 power supply issue.
Guy down the road from me repairs TV's and is full auto and suppressor guy. Wife's TV shit the bed recently. He replaced three capacitors for $65 and it works like a rented mule. |

I have had a Sony for over 13 years, still looks great. Just bought a Vizio for another room and it looks great. Not sure of the longevity of the Vizio, but Brother in Law has had one for 7 or 8 years no problems. Not a fan of anything Samsung. All of the Samsung stuff I have had has been dissappointing over time.

Sharp and Sony are the two brands I have had good luck with.

I heard TV electronics go on sale not long after the new year. Something about Black friday and holiday sales to get rid of old stock for new models then they go down again once the new models get in... not sure if true or not but I wold not be surprised.
Oh, and SONY!

Hit the Pawn shops. You would be suppressed what you can buy.

Have had a 52" Sharp for 8 years or so and a 55" Vizio for a few years and both have been more than adequate.

A friend in the repair business told me to stay with the three S's and he would place Sony on top. That was 10 years ago; I have 2 Samsung TV's in the house, one is LCD the other is a Smart LED and both have been trouble free.

View Quote That's building a whole custom built home theater complete with 9.2 sound with stagered seating, trayed ceilings, room in room construction kinda money. Then again it's been awhile since I priced cinemascope projectors. But im guessing that a fella that knows his shit could piece together a 2.35-1 screen and and a PJ that will throw a 4k 2.35-1 image for well under 10k anymore. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

I recently bought a few LGs for the extra rooms and the open kitchen and dining area and they've been really excellent TVs despite the low price point. My only complaint would be limited HDMI connections. For me it's not an issue since they only hook to apple TVs

I've had a 42' Vizio LCD for several years now and had no problems yet.
My brother has a 55' Samsung LCD and he's had it worked on twice. My In laws have a Samsung that shit the bed a month after the warranty went out, Samsung extended the warranty for a month to cover the repairs but when the same thing happened a year later it cost them a couple hundred to get it fixed. My next tv will be another Vizio. |

FIX IT YOURSELF
Really it's worth the time to check Usually Crappy capacitors easy to spot easy to fix, I fixed mine for about $25.00 Quoted:

Book, read one instead. I just finished The Day the War Ended In Europe. OK, flat screens are great for DVDs.

Caveat: I don't care about HD or ridiculously high resolution. I guess I'm too used to watching hadji DVDs on my laptop in my hootch.
I have 5 Vizios in my house. The oldest, a 42" is over 7 years old. The first one died after 10 months and was replaced free of charge. Next oldest is a 27" that is about 6 years old. Then a little 13" my kid used for video games until recently. It's about 6 years old as well. The largest is a 60" in the living room. It's only 1 year old and is the replacement for the same thing that had it's screen damaged after having it a year. It's a smart TV, HD, etc. Pretty cool. Netflix, Amazon, Youtube, and some others are streamable. We just picked up a 50" on Black Friday for about $350. Also smart, blah, blah. Samsung is great, no denying that. I just seem to always find the best deals on the Vizios. They last and the picture is good enough for me. I admit, I'm not a videophile. |

My Samsung from Sams club has been going strong for 6 years. U get what U pay for,

Samsung or Sony.
The new Vizios suck. I returned my 65" Vizio for a 60" Samsung. That should say something. Prior to my 60" Samsung I had a 47" Sony.... now it is in my office and it still works motherfucking awesome after 5ish years. |

I love my one year old Samsung but don't waste your money for the Samsung Smart feature. It sucks about as bad as is even possible.

Buck for buck, an M series Vizio holds its own with ANY of them.

We have one Panasonic 55" and one Sharp 60". Both have great pictures and have been flawless.
Bought them both with Amazon Prime. I couldn't come close to the price locally, plus free delivery and no sales tax. |
