Finally. Now I won't be tempted to buy another and I can put that money toward filling the one I have with plates.
Somehow I have a feeling that plate manufacturers are about to have a lot of new business. |

Who wants dibs when I find out it is too short and large for my tall, lanky ass :)

Man I wish I could of got two. I was hoping that the would last til tomorrow, but I kind of knew that would not happen. Maybe I will get lucky and they will come back into stock.

I am planning to rattle can this into a color scheme more fitting for my use. I know a lot of people use the Krylon Fusion paint, but is there anything cheaper that is effective on cordura? Perhaps this could evolve into a very cool picture thread of everyones personalized camo job.

I noticed the charge on my credit card from Shellback actually says "Shellback Katylist" so it's a good bet they are in cahoots somehow and share the same supply. Plus, the Katylist cust service email points to Shellback: http://www.katylist.com/contact/ Maybe it's their liquidation outlet. |

So the carrier from the OP is $50, and the lowest plates I've seen by themselves are around $160-70.
Is the extra cost worth it for that setup versus this Condor? http://www.bodyarmormegastore.com/Condor-Sentry-Plate-Carrier-2-AR500-Armor-Black-p/cdr-sentryblk2.htm |

Then the extra $20 or so for the Shellback gets you the option of side plates. So the question is, is the extra cost worth side plates? As for the coat thickness, I'm not sure if plates listed with "base coat" are enough or if a 1/4" build up is really necessary. Then there are trauma pads to consider. Anyway, there are some cheaper plates. |

Seems like the steel plates are really popular. Aren't people worried about m193? Seems like a pretty common threat in the US.

Anyone have a free shipping or coupon code for the shellback site? Seems silly to pay $10 shipping for the carrier when CATI has free shipping on the plates.

Well, I fo'ed. Decided to get the Shellback overrun and the CATI plates with the full 1/4" lining, a little more than the Condor rig but I like having the option of adding side plates or soft armor.
Damn it arfcom, costing me money again. |

Yeah that Katy site had two listed...one was Berry Compliant, the other is the sama as Shellbacks' site. What's "Berry Compliant" refer to? Berry Amendment Feel free to make heads or tails. I think its 100% American made WITH all(?) American made materials. EDIT: Berry Compliance – Who is Berry Anyway? Two main differences between the Berry Amendment and the Buy American Act will help when trying to decipher which applies to you and your corporation. The Berry Amendment is used only for contracts funded by the Dept of Defense, and is not limited to contracts just within the U.S., while the Buy American Act only applies to federal government contracts within the U.S. The requirement for the Berry Amendment is that the items be 100% domestic content. The Buy American Act however, only requires that only 50% of the cost of the components come from the United States or the following qualifying countries: Austria; Belgium; Canada; Denmark; Egypt; Federal Republic of Germany; France; Greece; Israel; Italy; Luxembourg; Netherlands; Norway; Portugal; Spain; Sweden; Switzerland; Turkey; United Kingdom of Great Britain; Northern Ireland. Yeah that Katy site had two listed...one was Berry Compliant, the other is the sama as Shellbacks' site. What's "Berry Compliant" refer to? They should be the same product. As far as I can tell, with no military procurement experience, Berry Compliant basically means it's Made in America. http://web.ita.doc.gov/tacgi/eamain.nsf/BerryAmendment/Berry%20Amendment?Opendocument and http://www.acq.osd.mil/dpap/cpic/ic/berry_amendment_faq.html Since 1941 the military was encouraged (by law) to buy domestic products before foreign sources if available. Seems they've updated it that for certain products the DoD can buy ONLY from domestic mfg's and suppliers. |
