Yeah this. Wife, DIL, Sister, and a couple of nieces are nurses. They don't want or like gifts specific for their jobs as a nurse. After the obligatory stethoscope upon graduation, any other job specific gift is blah.

Seriously, like was already said, get a gift for her not her job.

Don't know about the scrubs--- probly a great idea-- but every nurse I've ever met has said SHOES!!

my sister's best friend is a nurse

They make special shoes for nurses. Those gals (and guys) are on their feet all day long, for very long shifts.

Food. My mom came out of a hospital for a broken hip,we asked sis's best friend what the nurses' station would like... they LOVE food gift baskets. Be sure to give them some kind of low fat and low carbo/sugar treats, too.

If you get her a stethoscope, don't cheap out. Get her a nice Littman.

Edit: a Littman master cardiology with a brass finish and her initials would be really nice if she uses one everyday. Should run you about $200-225. If you don't go that route the cardiology 3 is a nice one too.

Make sure u find out what type of nursing she does though. Not all nurses use a stethoscope. If she isn't taking blood pressures manually, listening to breath sounds etc it will just sit in a drawer or her car. ER nurse you are golden.

Folding Pocket Clip Board. Either engrave their name on the back or just use a p-touch label. Great for the HIPPA thing.

Slap watch. There's less nooks and crannies for nasties to get into. Very easy to wipe clean with a Cavi wipe. Plus if they do have to ditch it, it doesn't cost much.
