I don't think you ever have enough, not being a smartass either. I don't have as many as I would like but I am at an ok number. I think I have around 150 for I think 8 - ARs. I like the 10-20 per rifle. That gives a you a load out plus spares.

I think I have around 110.
40 of them are 20s, the rest are 30s. Pmags and GI mags mostly. I have enough, but can't always pass up a good deal. |
|
I don't like wasting time reloading magazines at the range. When I do go to the range, I like to shoot 300 to 500 rounds. Simple math tells me I need 10 to 17 magazines to fulfill my needs. Add to that the threat of future regulations, I estimate that I need 3 times my current need, so 51 magazines. Add to that a stockpile to sell during times of panic buying. Maybe 100 magazines total.

I just keep buying them on sale.
I keep most in wrap for my children and grandchildren in case of future bans. For my AR's I like a 50/50 mix of Pmags and metal for longterm storage. |

Hi--first post. I recently put together a AR-15 and my plan is to only have one, I mostly hunt with and own a number of leverguns, but felt the need to own a AR-15. So I have two questions: 1). How many magazines do I really need? 2). How many 30-rnd and how many 20-rnd mags? if this question has been asked before I apologize in advance...I also want to thank you for your time and input... View Quote 40 per rifle. That's what I did. |

Get as many as you need then get 1 more so you can make a bet with some crazy fellow Arfcomer.

I have around 200 mags and plan on owning a at least a dozen ARs. I would like to keep 3-4 ARs for myself, give 2-3 to each of my boys when they are old enough, and use the balance for bartering, college fund, etc when Hilary is elected for her second term. Same with the mags. Between now and when I die, I will NEVER shoot enough to wear them out. I'll set aside the appropriate amount (maybe 35 for the each of us) then use the rest for trade, sale, etc.
Even though I don't need them, I'll order a few more in each gun related order I place from here on out. |

Maybe this will give you a hint as to how many are required. We moved recently and I found I had a Rubber Maid bin packed with magazines..................I thought I only had two Rubber Maid bins holding magazines..........I forgot about the third one. View Quote Forgotten mags best mags!! |

My last count 150 something magazines and 5 AR's.
30 something AK74 Magazines , 1 AK 74 13 AK 47 magazines, 2 romanian drums, 1 AK47. Depends bro, it depends. I also rememer the 94 ban. |

Smells like a trap for future legislation.
Post count and registration date. The answer to how many I "need"? As many as I damn please. |

Thank you all for the replys and advice--ordered 16 D&H 30-rnds from PSA ($5.99) and a good friend of mine will sell me 10 new Colt 20-rnd mags cheap...so it begins... View Quote Don't buy aluminum mags, the feed lips bend when dropped and will cause malfunctions. Just buy pmags. |

A “standard” load is 7 magazines for a total of 210 rounds. One in the rifle and 6 in mag carriers.
This is what you carry on your person at any time. So you should have at least twice that many loaded and ready to go in your vehicle. That way you can resupply quickly. So we are up to 21 loaded magazines. At your home base you should have a full resupply for this. So that means you need 42 loaded magazines. And you need a full set of spares for these magazines, which brings us to 84 magazines. And you need some range magazines, but 3 of these is enough. That means the correct answer is, as always, 87. |

[facepalm] I have never in my 20 years of shooting AR15s ever dropped a magazine on its feed lips. Even if I did,I feel pretty confident it would be alright. Would I use any magazine for a hammer? Probably not. I just ordered 16 of those D&H mags too. It's a smoking deal! Worse case scenario, you can sell them for $30 a piece in 2016 when Hillary gets elected. |

10 per gun/rifle minimum, 1000rds per caliber minimum. Obviously we will add *ALOT* more ammo/mags for the common/go to 9mm, 5.56, 7.62 etc guns.
Reloading mags at the range sucks. |
|
Buy a few mags. Buy some ammo. Load the magazines you have. Whatever ammo you have left over, buy more magazines to fill.
But inevitably you'll have a magazine where you run out of ammo and only have 10 or 12 rounds in. So then buy another case of ammo and repeat |
|
If you've ever lived through a mag ban then you'd know that you can't really have too many even if you don't need them.

I only have 8 right now. 4 D&H 30 rd, 2 PMAG 30 rd, 2 PMAG 20 rd. Working on getting more.

I have 12 per AR and I feel comfortable with that tbh. I have 15 for my AK.

Why does anyone need to post 14.62 times a day? View Quote For the same reason that someone posts 1.77 times a day. Until the fire, I had about 50-60 magazines for ONE AR15. When I complete my second AR15, I won't get another 50 magazines. I can only shoot one at a time. If I get three more ARs assembled I won't need 200 magazines. To be honest, if I could buy 30 round magazines I would have probably bought 20-30 D&H magazines and another 10-20 PMags at current prices. |

There IS a right answer to this question. The answer is MORE!
|
|
Perhaps start with a dozen or so,
Three 20 rounders will fit in a surplus 20 round pouch, these are your heavy match rounds for firing prone Six 30 rounders will fill two of the surplus 3 mag pouches, M193 ammo in these Another six 30 rounders in a different color with M855 ammo for hard targets. Zero your rifle for the match ammo since this will be used for long range shooting and see how the other two group with this zero. OR zero with the 55 or 62 grain stuff, although this will throw your POI way off if you use heavier ammo for lang range. Being an inch or two low at close range with the M193 and the M855 is easiy to compensate for. Just my two cents. |

Quoted: Considering that magazines are the cheapest they have EVER been, there is no reason not to stock up. This Black Friday a vendor is selling new D&H magazines WITH a Magpul Gen III follower installed for $6.50. That has got to be close to cost to produce them. View Quote |
