First job offer is in Neurology. I'm going to probably hold out for something in surgery.

We'll see. I don't take the boards for a few more months.

I'd take GI work before stroke and dementia patients.

Albuterol does cure everything, it just has to be made into a poultice with rhinoceros horn.

That is hard to say.

Ultimately, PAs and NPs have very similar scopes of practice, though in some states, NP can operate under their own license and have their own practices. PAs must work under a supervising Physician's license.

PA school is usually 2 years, though some programs are 3. NP programs are 2 years, but they also have 3 year NP programs where you can get your RN in 1 year and your NP over two years.

4 years undergrad, 2 years of PA school. (1 year didactic, 1 year of clinical rotations.)

For comparison, Docs do two years of didactic, 2 years of rotations, then residency.

But our 1 year of didactic training is around 76 units over 3 semesters, (30 units Fall and 30 units spring, 16 units summer). They fit a lot into one year.

Nah. I never wanted to be trained in nursing. You must be a nurse first before becoming a NP.

When I was looking at PA school, there was talk of various residency programs.  One I heard of was for orthopedic medicine.  Are there more specialty programs for PAs post graduation?

Choose very carefully, Grasshopper.  I have some friends who are regretting their choice of first employer right now.

Seems a lot of old docs think PA is some weird abbreviation for "bitch".

Yes. There are many residency programs for PAs around the country: orthopedic surgery, general surgery,  cardiothoracic surgery,  oncology,  emergency medicine,  and others. It pretty much runs the gamut. But unlike M.D.s, we do not have to complete a residency in a specialty in order to work in that specialty. We can be trained on the job by a supervising physician.

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind.

This job offer was offered by a Doc I'm doing a rotation with so I kind of know what to expect if I accept the position.

Wife is a PA and works in the ED. She likes it but say good-bye to holidays and weekends.

Edit: And tons of FSA people. The bonus is that she has some very gross stories. Girl came in and said her boyfriend was complaining of an odor. When the speculum was inserted it was like a damn breaking and puss came gushing out all over her and the bed. The girl stated she had no idea she had an infection. She earns her money.

I won't work in the ER. I'm not a fan of being in fast track.

I rather do ortho and be on 24 hour call than be stuck in fast track. :/

She rarely does fast track. Generally she works right along side the docs and handles the same type of patients. A lot of hospitals do stick the PA's in fast track. She is looking to switch after 6 years because she is tired of working crappy hours.
