Please help me pick a Military watch for my son who is active duty. Cav Scout 19D Christmas present. Thanks in advance

Can't go wrong with a Casio G-Shock if he is going to be wearing it on duty.

Have a look around this site.

Gshock on duty. Hamilton for Class A's/Off duty. Classic American look. Stay away from Suunto, they are overrated in my opinion.

Casio G-Shock / Pathfinder / Pro Trek. I like the solar atomic versions for zero upkeep.

Get him one of the Swiss made military watches with Tritium illumination. Marathon from CountyComm. Or search Amazon for Watch - Tritium.
The ones with the Carbon fiber or plastic cases are inexpensive, but well made and pretty waterproof. Get one that is official military issue (for US or other). Thats what I would want if I were running around in the dark. |
|
thank you for the info.. looking to spend around $200-300 Should I stay away from Tritium illumination? I was looking at the watches at the Military Watch Company..
|
|
I was concerned about Tritium due to his MOS.. I like it but not sure if it is practical

|
G-Shock Model: GA100-1A1. it even does the funky extra half hour for when in Afghanistan |

If you can find a Tritium powered watch that also has some type of maintenance free mode of operation such as solar or automatic that is <$500 please let me know...
Anyway, Tritium is great because it always illuminates. I also don't know how it would be an issue given any MOS as Tritium is used in several different applications in the military such as the ACOG rifle scope... |

The Seal team member I hunted with this season swore by his Suunto Core:

View Quote Gotta agree, on the Sunnto, bought my son one for his 21st b-day. That thing eats batteries like crazy. Maybe it's just his but I would go with the G-shock over it any day. |

Seiko SKX007: http://forums.watchuseek.com/attachments/f67/432100d1304664292-review-seiko-skx007-divers-200m-02.jpg A decent quality watch that will take some abuse and isn't too out of place in any uniform or style of dress. View Quote It's shiny. Another vote for a G Shock. Takes abuse, keeps working. He will never use any of the shit on the Suunto |

View Quote That's what I would recommend, with a NATO strap. Mine has been bombproof, and i'm not gentle to it. |

My suits are now too tailored for such a thick watch. |

I used my Suunto Core a lot, that thing was awesome. Great or elevation, direction, even temperature and storm warning. Good battery life (2 years).
Mine was stolen and I had to get a new one, the wrist strap has been re-designed and it broke twice already. The watch itself is still good, but they complicated the strap attachment and it's weaker. G Shock is good too but for a hundred bucks more I go for the Suunto. |

My wife just purchased me a Suunto Ambit 3 Peak and it does literally everything.
It is, by far, the most technologically awesome watch I have ever owned. I've had it for about week and am only now starting to scratch the surface of it's awesome potential. It is the ultimate watch and in fact is so awesome I don't know that "watch" really adequately describes it. It's more like a wrist top computer. |

View Quote They're great until the bezel falls off for no discernible reason whatso-fucking-ever. My G-Shock has done more than I would've thought to ask of a $160 watch and never even hiccupped. The solar power and atomic clock updates are nice too |
|
My Suunto Ambit 3 is so intelligent I fear it may at some point become self aware and take over the world.

The worst was 0001 - 0200. Forget about sleeping that night.
