Apparently the demil requirement is no longer in effect, or so I just read on Humvee.net.  12 HMMWVs are listed on govplanet.com.  Just reposting something I read this morning.

the ones our PD got have been a joke. the bought them for severe weather response. they suck worse than a regular 4x4 truck here on ice and snow, and really don't do that much better on muddy back roads, and have significantly less cargo capacity. high maint and parts costs. generally rough shape when delivered.

i'd take a good 4x4 over one unless you had some real special need for it.

What if my special need is looking like a bad ass

True story, I almost bought a civi hummer instead of my Excursion. I am thankful every day I didn't make that mistake.

I really wanted an H2, until I got familiar with them.  They look bad ass but functionally are a damned waste.  I bought an Escalade ESV instead and put a mild lift on it because it tows 2000 lbs. more than the H2.  Yeah, it's AWD instead of real 4x4, but there are ways to operate an AWD that will get you through most of the things a 4x4 will.  You can't manipulate the vehicle to gain an additional 2000 lbs. of towing.  The Excursion would have probably been even more appropriate for my needs......except Ford.

H2s look bad ass? How? Tahoe with massively heavier/larger body, how can you go wrong?

I remember the first time I saw a video of one trying to take a mild rocky trail. Snapped a tie rod like it was nothing simply trying to crawl over a small boulder that wasn't even half the height of the tires.

This. I've driven quite a few variants during my time in the Army. I have always been underwhelmed by their performance. I would love a surplus LMTV however. It's by far been my most favorite to drive and I love how it sounds.

You are correct, they appear to be demil code Q

DLA Disposition Services Demilitarization codes

Q - Commerce Control List Items (CCLI). Demilitarization not required, however Trade Security Controls (as set forth by the Department of Commerce) required at time of disposition. Trade Security Control Assessment/Clearance required. Mutilation to the point of scrap required outside the United States.

.Mil hmmvs have no pollution controls. No ICC lighting. No park on the transmission.  They are offered as a Loan to political subdivisions and can't be sold.

Some leaked out via Marine Corps in the 90's. There will be no more. Even the new large trucks won't be sold. The engines don't use DEF.

The best way to buy one would be from a foreign ally that has them and are over 25 years old.  No EPA or DOT bullshit and have it shipped back stateside.

They just released them as off-road use only.

If I get one it would most likely be converted to a 12v Cummins.

Later models had Park.  Also had the lap/shoulder seat belts.  I never minded driving one, or being up in the turret.  At one location, the CE guys crafted gunners seats that they affixed to the strap.  Made life nicer.

Do I want one to play with?  Yep, it would be nice.  But, when I have the kind of money it takes to have that kind of toy, its primary function in life will be to haul my Ma Deuce and M-60 around.  My brothers and I will play "Rat Patrol" on my large expanse of property.

Yes, the HMMWVs demil code has changed from having to destroy them before they could be sold as scrap to being able to auction them off as off-road use vehicles only.

See my post half way down on this page...

I honestly didn't think they'd go for this much.  There are numerous HMMWVs out there with clean titles for about the same pricing, and some are even cheaper!  Guess these are the bidders with no brains and no concept of the current market pricing.  Then you think of the 4,000 that will be released in the next few months. Those that bid high and won will soon realize their poor "investment."
