I imagine that lightweight chassis is a lot to control.  Good on ya

It's becoming a common swap that will only get cheaper as the 5.0 pops up at the wreaking yard. Notch back with a bolt on 5.0 will run in the 10s all day.

Thanks.  It was a very fun project.

First run out of the garage with all the panels on.  (drove a couple times with no box or hood).
I love the sound.

I've got a buddy who runs a chassis shop and he built a svo with a coyote aluminator and a 2.9 whipple. I believe it ended up putting down close to a grand with a 75 shot on top

I believe it.  It is a fun fun car to drive with a five speed and 373 gears.  It now has a 6 speed and 411 gears.

i have a 95 Cobra waiting on finishing touches to a Dart SHP blocked 331 before I can get to my 2005 GT which I want to do heads/cams/blower.

after that I am thinking 2012-2014 Coyote since they are dropping like a rock now due to the 2015.   2015 is super nice but I hate payments, hate having a car plummet in value in 2-3 years, and I hate the keyless push button start with other tech.
to keep this some what on topic, if I dont do a new Coyote I want to either restomod a 65-66 Stang to have a coyote or build a Factory Five Type 65.

love the coyote.   they are damn cool engines.   sure chevy has things that make a ton of horsepower too but nothing with the limited displacement of the Coyote.    for the displacement it does really damn well.  currently on a 2-3 year plan to have a build making use of one somehow.

Spent the last three days making a hood for the new motor install.  We didn't want to modify the steel hood as they are somewhat hard to find.

Problem was we needed a 4 inch cowl which is not made.  We however had the option of a 3.5 inch cowl and a 7 inch cowl.

We went with a compromise.  ordered the 3.5 inch cowl and crossed our fingers.  After installing and adjusting the hood we found we needed at minimum a half inch more to get the hood off of the front of the intake and the throttlebody flange and have proper motor to hood clearance.

So after some inspecting and measuring,  I came to the conclusion we were good in the rear but the front has to come up.  After some contemplating I came up with a plan and proceeded to make my buddy cringe.  Out came the die grinder and a cutting wheel.

Before cutting

Marking the lines for the cut.

After cut and adding temporary tabs to hold the height I was wanting and fiberglasing the sides with first matting and finally weave to strengthen the hood and clean up the edges under the hood.

In the process of glassing and contouring the nose to get the compound angles correct and soften the angles on the front edge of the hood.

I unfortunately haven't got the pictures of the skim coating process as It was getting late and I wanted to get out of the shop.  The final process consisted of using matting to build up the height and contour on the nose and sanded to contour repeatedly alternately build,  sand,  build,  sand,   and two final continuous sheets of fiberglas weave to prep for a skim coat of filler.  The final product gave is us just shy of 1 inch raise in the forward section of the cowl. Giving us a solid half inch under the hood for clearance roughly.   I will post some more pictures next time I get in the shop and start the final process.

As this was being done in a working repair shop,  In our down time we were working on two international tow trucks,  One we finished a in frame rebuild on a dt466 and the other got a new 500 dollar valve cover gasket!
While looking at the open hoods I couldn't help myself,  the grab handle was just screaming at me.  So I gave it a face to go with the scream.

Some more progress on the hood in the past couple days.  Did a Lot of Fiberglas work.  And some minor body work on the hood.  Got it in epoxy primer and almost ready for paint!  I will do some final body work and apply some high build primer and do a final block sand before finishing with paint and clear.

We were not impressed with the flex in the cowl so some fiberglass stringers were added to the bottom side of the hood for support.
The rear Fiberglas spar that I glassed into the cowl for support was the remainder of the 3/8 inch cut off the rear of the cowl as the tail would hit the wipers when the hood was up.  Worked real well.

ETA:  Do yous guys think thattl void the warranty on that there hood?

Bah!

They both have their strengths and weaknesses.  We beat the F----- out of all the race cars.  I have been genuinely surprised the piss pounding we have handed the cars we run,  Ford,  Chevy and Gasp!  Even the little CSX Dodge Shadow.

LMAO at the minivans with turbines.

The youngest just came in as it was spinning up and I asked her "where have you heard that noise before?"

She said "Aircraft.... Wait...Helo?"

"In a minivan" I replied.

She saw the 1/8 mile run and said "that's cool - but if you do that to mama's van she'll kill you"

There was a late 70's/early 80's Dodge work truck with ladder racks at Mopar Nationals a few years back that was running something like 11 second quarters. The guy said it was his daily driver work truck. It was pretty impressive!

Yay!

I finished the body work and paint on the hood last night and installed the hood this morning before work!

It's not perfect as it was painted in a diesel shop.  But,  the whole car will be repainted in a booth in the next year.

Oh and the 60 got buttoned up this morning.
We finished installing the new cam,  FI system and MAF sensor.  Had to un pack the main engine harness and add 9 wires into the computer connector and new computer.  With everything all togather,  it was given a base tune and test driven.
