We have a couple of older cats that I have a feeling will be leaving within a year also. Good cats make amazing friends.

I wish I had something good to say, but I don't other, other than we lost an older cat about 4 years ago and I can relate... We are lucky enough to have two younger cats and we hope they stick with us for a long time...but there will be that day...

If it means anything...there are a lot of cats out there that are in need of good homes. Hope that came out how I wanted it to.

Thanks to everybody for the condolences.

And to those that have also recently lost a loved pet, my sympathies to you.

For those of you that responded with older cats of your own...give them a hug for me, and make sure they know they're loved.

Somebody suggested that there are lots of cats that need adoption. I might go that route in the future, but not now. I have a 17 week old baby girl that needs my attention, and to not have a kitten jumping all over her.

My oldest is about to turn 10 and is showing some age. It will be very bad for my wife when it comes. Hopefully not soon.

RIP Kitty.

I know how you feel. I lost my buddy to cancer in September of 2012. Found him in the desert in 2002 and he followed me ever since.

He'd wait for me everyday by the door and curl up around my head every night.

Sounds like you gave Sterling a good, happy life. That's the best thing we can do for our friends.

Sorry, and very well written, was a tear jerker, for sure.
I was never a 'cat person', did save a cat 30 some years ago, some kids were going to toss him off a bridge.
I was on my Trusty Harley, cat was a big black and white, with a raccoon mask and a nose pattern like an Indian arrowhead.
Named him 'Trigger'.
He also would respond and come when I whistled or called his name, more dog than cat it seemed.
Was my Buddy.

My cat Ernie, who will be 20 in February, doesn't take a shower with me but sits outside the shower so he can drink the water left on the shower floor and door drip. Crazy animals, you've got to love them.
