We haven't bought steaks in years for financial reasons.  However, now I'd like to stock up for the winter.  Omaha steaks have been good everywhere I've had them.  However, I'm not sure how much of a bargain their packages are compared to the local market.  We have a store a few miles down the road so no shipping or anything.  Just curious what the rest of you think?

Thanks

That package deal with steaks, burgers, chicken, and baked potatoes looks pretty good value wise, but I wonder what the shipping and handling charge is.

I tried them a couple of years ago. Over priced and tough with no taste, a ripoff if you ask me.

Get a food saver and buy when on sale at your local butcher or grocery store. Better yet, find a local cattle producer and buy a half or quarter of beef.

The $40 one?  I got that flyer in the mail today.  You get 2 and 3 of this and that.  Then 10 1/4 lb burgers.  It's definitely a good variety.  Might give us 3-4 meals not counting the burgers.

So are they good deals overall or just certain things?

Thanks

This.

Cheaper and better meat.

I bought a half of beef and a lamb...freezer is FULL.
I'll be good for over a year.

If you're in the good part of Pa, why not talk to a local farmer and get a 1/4 or 1/2 of beef ?

The "good part" of PA?  Not sure what you mean but up in Pennsyltucky, you couldn't swing a dead cat without hitting a farm that could easily do what you're talking about.

Around here, I'd probably have to drive 20 miles or so.  I'm just planning on keeping an eye on the circulars for now.

Thanks

Tried them about 10 years ago.   The meat I got was terrible.  I won't buy from them again.

It's there a butcher shop close to you?  One near me has package deals on meat with some pretty good prices.

excellent food, nice gift packages. but they are relentless with the telemarketing.

Overall quality is pretty good, won't match a hand-cut, hand-selected butcher shop steak.

Order just once, and you'll get constant offers including free shipping.

A bit pricey, but you're paying for convenience.

Wouldn't try to feed a family, but for singles or a couple, Omaha does a good job.

The beef tips (one of the less expensive products) make a great Chiii Rojo!

Better meat for a lower price. We just picked up a half cow and a whole pig.

I thought I'd lost my taste for meat because I couldn't eat the shit the local store sells.

Omaha was a pleasant surprise and huge selection.

The secret is to watch their sales via email.  If you wait, you can get free shipping and $20 off which
makes them a good deal.  Their chocolate cake............oh man.......

We used to order from them.  I can find better quality and price locally and I only have to buy what I need and not stock frozen food.

Obama Steaks are mediocre.   I buy mine at Costco or a specialty meat market.

My Dad sent me a package for Christmas one year and I really liked it.    He lives in Florida and I live in Omaha.

Give it a try and get the Potatoes au Gratin

Good meat, but I think you could do better from a local meat shop/butcher.

Yup, my parents sent us the big combo pack for our anniversary one year.  It was all good, including the potato balls....but for the purpose of this thread I was just looking at prices to see if it was a good deal pound for pound.  Looking at the $40 deal...that seems like it's good to go but also gives me the feeling they want my info and to get a foot in the door so they can hound me and I'll keep buying from them.  But when looking at the cases of filet's and such...not such a good deal.

The only thing I like from them is their marinated salmon and their duck breasts, but there is no way to get their stuff cheap.
They've got it all figured out, where you rarely get a "deal".
Obviously, wait until free shipping is available, and you can often start the purchase process through a link at your credit cards' website.
A lot of credit cards give you a higher percent rewards, if you go through their links to O.S..
There are also a lot of credit cards, that have "points" you can redeem, for Omaha Steak gift cards too.

I've never did one of their larger deals, with multiple items, and I've never taken the time, to figure out if they are a good deal, compared to smaller orders.

Ripoff.

It's all frozen, even when you buy in the store.

The "package deal" is even more of a ripoff - it's stacked high with a bunch of frozen stuff that ISN'T steaks.

Do yourself a favor, find a reputable butcher in your neighborhood.

I think it's a bad deal if you're buying for yourself.  It's a convenient way to send a gift, I think that's the premium you are paying for Omaha Steaks.

I used to send my contractors and geologists Omaha steaks for Christmas until I discovered

Dirty rice is tasty as well.

Lots of great stuff.

Local butcher shop or find a grocery store that still cuts meat in house and get to know the manager or the meat cutters. I could build you a better package without using fillers like potatoes and the like.
I've got whole bone in pork loins right now for $1.79/lb. $40 would put a lot of chops, and country style ribs in the freezer. Love me some bone in thick chops on the grill.
ETA Watch the flyers and pick up deals.

This.  When I had a separate stand up freezer I did this once.  Looked like a good deal.  You are better off buying fresh locally.

This, I paid $3.49 lb for a slab of NY strip yesterday, then had them cut it to order. [no charge] Bought a slab for $55, I can make a lot of meals off that.
