Thanks for all the replies. I don't really have time to get really immersed in any RPG games. It's going to have to just be fun games I can dick around with for a few hours. I'll check out Crisis, I played Far Cry and I kinda sucked at it. Like I said, I'm more sci-fi than Fantasy, so WoW, Skyrim, Diablo don't really hold any appeal. I just DL'ed KSP, I've been watching Robbaz's videos of it. Should be fun to blow up some rockets on the pad. View Quote Too bad you don't have time, there are some pretty amazing 4X space games. |

I like space and mech sims.
Freespace 2 was glorious and still is even if the graphics are a bit simple by todays standards. Freespace 1 can be ported over to run on it. Hella good story. X3 Reunion was the shit but hard as hell to get into. The focus is more on managing your trade empire than on being a combat sim. Freelancer was linear but had a passably good story. X-Wing and Tie Fighter are too outdated for me to get into anymore but I still have the memories. Mechwarrior 3 was the pinnacle of the old school pc battletech series. It's a bit crashy though. Mechwarrior 4, Black Knight, and MW4 Mercenaries had good campaigns but the graphics were a step backward. Still passable though. PC also has a ton of free to play titles like World of Tanks, War Thunder, and Mechwarrior Online. Some of them will try to make you pay real money for everything and some are fine if you don't mind progressing more slowly than a subscriber. I'm going to be all over world of warships when it comes out. |

Another good example of Steam sales, last month I bought this:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/34330/ The Total War: Shogun 2 Collection, a $50 package, for $12.50 And also Just Cause 1 + 2 + DLC Collection for $3.79 Every week there are sales, with more on the weekend. And then twice yearly the big huge sales, for summer and winter. It's tempting to just go and buy whatever, but if you're patient and watch sales... PC gaming is cheap as fuck. |

Many of these suggestions are console games as well. That's not a very good way to represent the platform.
Civilization 5/Beyond Earth Any MOBA (DoTA2, Strife, LoL) Company of Heroes 2 Starcraft 2 Any MMO (WoW, Archeage, etc) Legend of Grimrock 2

Take time to read the Steam reviews and watch youtube videos. But checking r/Gamedeals is a daily thing for me. I've purchased a few bundles found there as well. Every single sale has a ton of comments about whats good, whats bad, any technical issues, etc. Patience really pays off. In the meantime, great games will come along to tide you over till one you really want is on sale. |

I'll put in my 2 cents.
Skyrim Any of the Total War games except for Rome 2 (Rome 1 and Medieval 2 are the best ones in the series) TF2 And a whole bunch of other games. |

That gives you 3 games, plus all DLC For $14!!!!!! It represents the platform really well, add up what that would cost for console And if you want, you can get a USB Xbox controller to play it with, because it offers full controller support. |

Elite Dangerous.. View Quote This and Star Citizen whenever they stop making ridiculous amounts of money off of vaporware. Any and all titles you were playing the dumb downed version on your console. Including and *ESPECIALLY* Skyrim. With mods you can have Skyrim in photorealistic resolutions with amazing new features. And the coolest feature of Skyrim on PC? Being able to use the Oculus Rift aside (Which is JAW DROPPING amazing BTW) I had Skyrim on my SSD drive. I didn't actually know that there were little words of advice during load screens because it would say loading for about a second and a little mist would show up at the bottom of the screen, and then I'm right back in the game. Watching my friend Dan playing, if it can be called that, on his console was actually physically painful for me! Some of those load screens could last two minutes or better. That in the PC world is borderline unplayable. |

My recommendation would be to just check steam for sales. With as often as they put good games on sale, paying full retail for a game is for suckers. If you can wait to play a game until 6 months or so after it comes out, you will eventually find it on sale. Or just do what I do, browse the sales until something tickles your fancy, then get it for 25-80% off.
ETA for instance, right now.. Payday 2: 75% off Arma 3: 50% off Saints Row 4: 66% off I could go on and on...if you own a PC, you should never pay full price for a game again. |

It boosts the graphics, increases the number of guns, and fixes about a billion bugs. I have to agree whole heatedly with this. I loved the STALKER series, it broke my heart when the developer went bust and the employees decided to go a different direction. That said, if I was just starting off into this world I would probably recommend you go backwards and start with Stalker: Call of Pripyat. As is, it was the least buggy and most satisfying of that series. I swear, the part where you have to move to Pripyat via the tunnels was the most intense game playing I have ever experienced on a PC. If you insist on going in order, then load the recommended mod first and then roll. And be prepared to be a bit disappointed with Clear Sky, they tried too hard with that one. It is still a decent game, but once you play COP you'll see how much they missed the mark with CS. |
