With plans to abolish the IRS and repeal Obamacare, Cruz acknowledged that Republicans would likely face vetoes from President Barack Obama and filibusters from Senate Democrats. But the potential 2016 presidential candidate appeared to look further than next month's election, saying obstruction from Democrats would drive Republican success in 2016.

There will be no abolishing the IRS but repealing FBHOcare is a real possibility.

And the batfe too.

Well hopefully they repeal Zero-care, & then;
- The Senate cites the "Reid rule" to override the veto with a simple majority of 51 votes
- The House cites the "Pelosi rule" to "deem the veto overridden"

If the Republicans had any balls they would fuck the Democrats at their own game on the first day of the session.

I wish they would, but I doubt Obamacare will go away. There is only one degree of separation between the R's and D's.

Cruz has repeatedly stated he will repeal "every last word" of Obamacare.
I think he should start with a series of bills designed to force Obama to keep his word.
If both House and Senate pass a bill allowing everyone to keep their doctor if they like him....
...Obama would either sign it and see Obamacare gutted or veto it and destroy his remaining credibility.
Pass another bill ending the individual mandate--make Obama veto it, get Hillary on the record.
Pass another bill reorganizing IRS--make Obama veto it, get Hillary on the record.
Show America that GOP has an agenda and Obama is obstructing it and Hillary is no better.

Umm...they couldnt do either of those things even if they had the balls.  Veto power by the president is defined in the constitution.  The other "rules" are just how congress conducts legislative affairs

They answer to who holds the reins, ultimately that's the American people.

If you don't approve of the actions of those sock puppets, you have only one group to blame.

Just to clarify, there is no "veto" mentioned in the constitution, it's just a way of him saying he won't sign the bill into law.

Any talk of abolishing the IRS is absurd.  Bordering on infantile.  Obamacare, maybe.

Yeah, it is awfully important that we keep a federal organization for those in power to oppress their opponents with via harassment and audits.

For better or worse we have a federal government.  That government requires money to operate.  That money comes from taxes.  Some agency has to collect those taxes.  That agency will never be popular.  Abolishing the IRS does not make taxes go away anymore than abolishing the ATFE makes gun laws go away.

IRS is here to stay.   However, if the tax code is amended in a sensible way, they could be greatly downsized.

Have to keep that revenue stream flowing; neither side wants to give up power and the ability to spend $$$ is power.

I tend to agree but let's face it....You don't need to be much of a deep thinker to suggest something that's fucked up and needs fixing in this country. His are just the low-hanging fruit.

You realize the IRS didn't exist until 1913, right?  America existed before 1913, and had money.  It's possible to tax people without taxing their income.

You don't even have to downsize them.  Just give them positions as auditors to audit the federal government.

The country worked fine without an IRS & without an income tax.
Although it is a long shot, we should be getting back to the basics & eliminating government agencies that the people don't want.
