I sold a couple of guns at the fun show today to fund the purchase of a new Colt AR. Do to price constraints I've narrowed it down to either the 6720 or 6920. Right now the 6720 is running about $100 less. ($799) Other than the pencil barrel and a slightly different roll mark, is there any difference that would make one a better purchase than the other?

Thanks.

Your subject says 6940...and I am not a fan of the monolithic upper.

I have a 6920 and love it...and you can get one with MP furniture for $875 routinely now.  That is a nice deal for a reliable workhorse.  I am sure this will turn into a Colt bashing thread, but the fit and finish of mine are great.  My only complaint has been the trigger, which sucked.  Of course, they all suck compared to aftermarket triggers, which is why I replace them.

Price is also right on the 6720, but I don't have any experience with them....so I guess I am not helping.

I prefer lightweight barrels so the 6720 would be my choice even without the $100 price savings.

That's a great price on the 6720.

I own both, to my knowledge it's just the barrel.  My favorite is the 6720.

My 6920 is still the Cadillac of my collection.  Love that weapon and it has never let me down.

I meant 6920, I had 6940 on the brain cause I do kind of like their look but the 6920 it more customizable so I ruled out the 6940.   It looks like you guys figures that out. So a couple of you seem to like the lightweight barrel better, good to know. Doesn't seem to be any downside.

Thanks

This.  No need for the M4 barrel if you don't have an M203. (JMHO).

I prefer the weight savings of the pencil style barrel... I'm not firing full auto or even rapid firing semi-auto.

Is there some cheat sheet for the pony number's meanings? I've always heard 6950 that and 7951723 this... How do you decode the meaning?

Thanks for the input,  I thought it was a great price too.  I just bought it from Sportsman's for $819 shipped.
PSA  had it for $799 plus shipping so about $3 less. I figfigured that it might be here soon from Sportsman's.

6920 lower from Ratworx and then see if Kristas Firearms still has the Colt factory 6921 pinned and welded uppers. I did this and don't regret it a bit. 14.5" FTMFW!

These two posts make me feel better about getting the Daniel Defense M4V5LW with pencil barrel. I've been considering getting a regular/profiled barrel put on.
