I don't know but im going to make a guess and say yes. My doctor told me to stzy away from soda. I use to drink alot of it and it did some damage to my stomach(scary stuff). The doctor said soda is no good because of the sugar, acid, caffaine, and It's carbonated.

I've read articles for years claiming that tea might contribute to kidney stones. It has lots of sugar just like soda, so I would guess it can't be much better.
|
|
I say yes, if you make it yourself and control the amount of sugar.
The stuff in the store? I would say it was just as bad as soda. |
|
Buy unsweetened tea in the store or make your own. It actually quenches your thirst when you don't have sugar in it

Regular black tea with lotsa sugar?
Prolly a little better than a Coke, but not good for you by any means. Dehydrates you and tannic acid can wreak havok on your gut. |
|
|
I make it with black tea and fresh lime zest then sweeten with agave nectar. Way less sugar, still plenty sweet, and it adds a unique taste that everyone I've given it to seems to love.

Real tea has some ingredients in it that are good for you, like L-theanine.
Both have caffeine, which can be good or bad for your health, and the acidity is probably worse in soda. Store bought stuff is probably just as bad as a Coke. |

My fav tea mix req ZERO sugar-
Get a gal of H2O and 2 boxes of tea- Reg Lipton Bigelow Earl gray Put three tea bags (heehee) and put them in the water. I prefer a 2/1 of earl to lipton. Put out in the sun for an hour and let diffuse. Remove teabags carefully, the enjoy tea. Add some lemon juice! Shit is good! I have found that the key to enjoying unsweet tea is to mix reg old tea and diff tea types. With the flavors, you'll kick the sweet tea habit. |

It depends how sweet the tea is.
At a fountain, I mix 1/3rd sweet with 2/3 unsweet. After ice, it's probably no more than 1/4 sweet. Straight sweet and the prepackaged stuff is too much. |

Yes, but only because of less sodium and other additives. Still plenty of sugar though.

I have wondered the the same as OP.
Not to derail the thread, but why is sugar bad? All things being equal in assuming one has no weight or diabetes issues? |
|
I suppose it depends, I use a 1/2 cup of sugar in a gallon...I know people that use 4 cups in a gallon.

You know you could always just drink tea without the sugar, right?

The green tea I buy has half the amount of sugar than an equivalent amount of coke. I try to drink water when I can.

Sweet tea tastes like shit! (just my opinion)
But it is not as bad for you as sugary soda or diet soda, especially if you sweeten the tea with non-sugar Stevia. Non sweetened tea is delicious! |
|
Making your own without chemicals or preservatives would be better IMO. Store bought stuff is probably almost as bad as soda. Depends how natural it is I would think.
I gave up soda because I was drinking 2-3 liters a day of the stuff. Diet, but that stuff seems to cause problems with insulin resistance and weight gain according to some studies. Trying to mainly drink water now. I'll treat myself to a soda now and then. |
|
I drink 1 soda a day - usually in the morning while the coffee is making. Rest of the day it is either water or Gatorade. During the summer I easily drink 3 qts of Gatorade a day I sweat - A LOT !!! Yesterday my blood sugar levels were 81 before breakfast / 78 before lunch / 93 after supper.
