Actually it's a pretty damn inaccurate portrayal of the Earps... which is what makes it a great movie. The real Earps were a bunch of gun-grabbing crooks whose primary MO was to use government power to support their greed. Hey! Present company excepted, of course. |

For some reason, my favorite quote of that whole movie is:
"Oh...Johnny, I apologize; I forgot you were there. You may go now." |

I celebrate Val Kilmer's entire body of work. This was just another movie in which he played an amazing role. I agree 100%. Have you seen The Doors? He plays an amazing Jim Morrison. Yes, and he was also the best batman. |

There’s a big time Tombstone/Wyatt Earp rivalry at my family gatherings. Some say one movie is the best, others claim the second one is the best. During a heated exchange, one proponent of the Russell/Kilmer movie tried to one-up a Costner/Quaid fan by heroically quoting a famous line from Tombstone, but screwed up the line: “Smoke that skinwagon!” Hilarity ensued. It was one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard in my life.

The real Earps were a bunch of gun-grabbing crooks whose primary MO was to use government power to support their greed. View Quote Well, no, that's not accurate at all. They were not "gun-grabbing." Virgil (not Wyatt) was partially responsible for banning the carrying of guns in town, but it wasn't because he was philosophically opposed to guns. He did it to find a way to control the bands of outlaw rustlers known as Cowboys from going on drunken rampages through the town. Yes, it goes against what I believe philosophically, but he wasn't Ben Franklin, he was a small town marshal. As far as being crooks, they were no more crooks than any other western lawmen. They weren't paragons of virtue, but they were no worse than most of the men who worked the law in western frontier towns. |

It shouldnt surprise me that arfcom (who loves mitt "gunbanning" romney) loves a totalitarian old west law man who banned guns.

I finally watched Tombstone the other night, after trying to get through it several times before.
Still don't like it. Not even on the same level as Costner's Wyatt Earp. And westerns are probably my favorite genre. |

Sherman McMasters: Where is Wyatt?
Doc Holliday: Down by the creek, walking on water. |

Mature, Robards, Kennedy, Douglas, etc, all pale before Quaid. |
