The only part about shooting my Ruger 10/22 or Mk3 22/45 that I don't like is

loading mags.

I'm  44, been shooting since I was around 6, have put tens of thousands of rounds down range through AR/M16, belt feds, and plenty of other fun stuff, and .22 is still fun for me. Maybe you are just wasting ammo, rather than challenging yourself to shoot better, every time you shoot. Or maybe it's time to learn knitting or basket weaving.

My son is 16 and we are having a lot more fun shooting ARs so we sold the tacitcool 22s and invested in 5.56 ammo and mags. We don't miss it

This is the way I feel!
I grew up with .22s and will always have several to shoot.  I have more .22 ammo then I can shoot in my lifetime. And I shoot alot.
Price will come back down when fools quit buying it.

I don't know, I've acquired over 4,000 rounds the last few months at about $.05-.06 per round so I'm still loving shooting my .22s! Most of that was Midway back orders and checking the local Sportsman's Warehouse every Thursday or Friday.

I was just thinking about this. Target shooting for tiny groups it doesn't matter what I'm shooting, all my concentration is on proper technique,22lr is just as fun as big calibers here.

For anything else .22lr is pretty boring for me.

My Ruger Mark II is my favorite, most accurate pistol. I haven't had a lot of ammo lately, but I just got 1500 rnds a few weeks ago so I should be oK for awhile now.

Print up some official bullseye targets and start keeping track of your score. Shooting with a purpose makes it a fun game. You can track your progress and how better you do over time.

I have the Ruger SR22 pistol and plan on acquiring the new S&W M&P Compact .22, as well as the Walther P22.  I wish I could justify one of the older Beretta cheetahs.  Those things have become pricey.  Last one Bud's Guns sold was over two years ago for $750.

What's with the Beretta stupidity?  Their beautiful guns are no longer made/for sale in America.  All they have now are these neo new wave crap.  Their single action jetfire pocket pistols?  Gone.

The current prices of .22 has taken some of value out of using it as a training vehicle. I'm still sitting on enough for a few years of steady use though and most of the stuff I'm shooting cost me under .02 per round

With dedicated analogues to my rifle and pistol I use it in a 70/30, or so, ratio of .22 to full power ammo. Synopsis is start the session with with a cold drill using full power ammo and then about 300 rds of drills with .22. Finish with a couple complex drills or shoot/move events with full power.  A session runs me about $20 instead of $100 or so. So yes, I still like and use .22.

And yes, just had my new MP22 Compact out today with a checkmate suppressor. It's a hoot as well.

Went to the range today brought my benelli m4 and ruger mk ii competition target. I really don't know why but the last 4 or 5 times I went out shooting my 22lr pistol just seems like no fun to shoot anymore. I just feel like I'm shooting a pellet gun or bb gun I really cant explain it but I feel like I should get rid of my 22's and my 22 ammo supply (my dad would love me to give him my 22 stash )

Does anyone else feel this way? Maybe it's a faze? Can someone elaborate if they have ever felt this way? Thanks

(p.s. been thinking of getting a fn five seven or ps90 to replace my 22's. They can hunt the same game but the 5.7 round has a big muzzle flash and seems like it would excite me as a shooter more.)

I'll always love shooting my .22's. Being taught to use firearms with a .22 when I was six, being turned loose to roam the ranch with a .22 and a box of shells in my pocket, bringing back rabbits and squirrels for dinner.. Those memories probably have a lot to do with why I've always loved .22 LR.

I truly hate not being able to grab a brick or three and just go shoot. I have plenty of ammo but replacing it is fubar these days.

Yup. I went through the same phase and sold a custom built Spikes ST-22 with a Lothar Walther pencil barrel that ran like a top. I got 'bored' shooting .22LR. It was a phase - I miss that gun. I keep checking the EE for another dedicated 22.

I havent enjoyed plinking with 22's for years now . I'd much rather shoot my AR's and 45's , even though its more expensive . Ive given away 3 different 22lr rifles and sold every 22 pistol I owned. I want others , but I dont worry about maintaining a huge stash of 22lr ammo .

I like my 22 mag and 17 HMR for walking rifles in the woods , but the two 22lr's I own now are both in need of repair .... To each their own .

Same here. I'd rather just shoot 5.56 or 7.62x39.

Although, I've heard that you can learn a lot about wind dope just by shooting a .22lr rifle at a mere 200 yards.

I quit shooting .22lr when the ammo dried up. I used to pay $19.95 for 550 rounds. I haven't found .22lr in any local walmart/Academy stores in over 2 years.

Best I can tell from gun shop prices around here 9mm is only marginally more expensive.

A quick search of CTD (Don't know any ammo sites offhand)
500rd .22lr is $80.
500rnd 9mm is $120

Why would I even bother going .22lr at that price?

Ehh, I had a bunch of 22s and ammo, used mostly for training platform for my full size versions... but really just got sick of loading mags and just plain dealing with the proprietary mag issue with every one. Ended up selling them all during the panic, don't miss em at all.

My absolute fav was the MP5-22...sometimes I miss that one, but when I think about loading the mags, I say Good riddance

Your shopping skills suck. I recently bought two bricks of SK-Lapua and one of Wolf match, for 60 bucks per brick...and that's for lower-end match ammo. I recently saw Winchester M22 for $25 per brick, but didn't buy any, because I already had 2000 rounds of it.

Purty nice  AZ_Sky.

I still like my .22 conversions but truthfully I don't shoot them as much as I used to for obvious reasons.

Do have a pellet rifle to help fill in the gap until .22LR becomes more readily available.

I've acquired 3 new .22 rifles in the past year - a 10/22 takedown, a Mossberg 702 and a Ruger American Rimfire - all scoped. It's fun to be able to concentrate on shooting basics like trigger squeeze, breathing techniques, sight picture, holdover, etc., without having to worry about recoil  - or cost per round.

And if the S ever hit the F, I know that a well-placed sniper headshot at reasonable distance with a .22lr will take out most people in one shot.
