These cops need to be a little more gut-less. A waddling group of NYPD officers has gotten so out of shape that their commander forced them to chip in for a room full of exercise equipment to shed some pounds, The Post has learned. Some officers at the Community Affairs Division have ballooned to obese proportions — and are in no condition to ever chase down a suspect if called upon to do so, sources said. “They are mostly all pathetically fat,” a source said. “They get heavy on the job . . . There’s a lot of sitting around and eating Twinkies at your desk. To fight the fat, Inspector Ellen Chang — a triathlete — ordered her chunky charges to pony up $30 each to outfit their East 12th Street headquarters with a stationary bike, a treadmill, a StairMaster and 350 pounds of free weights, the sources said. Some officers are dreading the thought of exercise and have described Chang’s plan as “bulls–t.” But the inspector is not backing down, regularly telling the obese officers, “You guys could stand to work out more” and “You should really hit a gym,” the sources said. |

It is a disgrace that police officers are allowed to balloon up to the point they cannot perform their duties.
The Feds mandate a certain level of fitness throughout their career and it should be that way for all LE. These tubs of goo are more susceptible to getting injured because of their pathetic level of fitness, can you say 3/4's |

I wonder who in the heck are they going to chase if someone runs. Honestly I don't have a problem with some type of standard unless you're pushing a desk. Don't see how she's going to force someone to pay $30 or whatever though |

Back in my SLMPD days we had some huge ones that broke seats like that. One of them fell on a friend of mine during a fight and screwed up my buddy's wrist so badly they retired him after the third surgery. How would you like to tell you grandkids that story?
