I'm moving from PA to FL.
I'd rather not do it myself this time so can anyone recommend a reputable & legit moving company that doesn't cost a fortune and won't steal/break my stuff?   Thanks!

Almost all the big companies sub out to owner operators. It's luck of the draw. We just moved cross country and got a great crew with really good ratings. Went with united, but we weren't paying so I didn't care about cost. Good luck

There is no such thing.  You should walk away from all your worldly possessions and buy new ones in Florida.

Had a real bad experience with United.

I had a VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with United.  Personally I think the whole industry has fell apart in the last few years - I would sell what I don't need or love and move entirely myself if I moved again.

I just got a quote from Atlas, holy fuck, $3,800+ That is insane. Even renting a Penske truck is $2,100 or $3,000+ WTF?!

Sounds like you're doing something wrong. I moved from AZ to SC in 2011 and from SC back to AZ in 2013. On the 2011 we got a 26' Penske and on the way back we rented a 26' Budget, both ran around $1200 if memory serves me correctly.

ETA - And that's with a full tow trailer.

I used to work for Allied. It's hit or miss, depends all on the crew you get. Go with a big name (Allied, United, North American, etc.) and you'll get claims paid faster with less hassle if / when shit gets broke.

eta: I personally would, and have rented a truck and done it my self. Moving companies are going to charge a lot of money to cause you a lot of stress.

First Post nails it.  A lot is subcontracted out.  There are many chances for cheating the customer too.  Check the firm via DoT and Yelp and other engines.

Prices have gone up then.

I have always done it myself, but that was always in state or from NJ to PA.

I called Pods & they want about $2,500.

Getting better, got Allied to about $1,800 now by not taking a bunch of my crap.
Penske truck & doing it myself is about $1,500.
