Would love to travel to some of these bigger matches in other states, but right now gotta focus on Georgia State. As a Board Member of Silver Creek Conservation Club that the match is held at and as a Staffer that helps set it up and work it, I can say that last years was an awesome match, this year will be even better. We are looking forward to this year. There are already, 192 shooters signed up and the match is 8 months away. Sign up and come up to shoot with us. Be nice to meet some fellow Arfcommers. |

EDIT TO ADD: Nothing replaces getting to that point of smooth where you just step it up. But, you also have to challenge yourself to get faster. But, having to triple tap each target to ensure you're getting AA hits, doesn't really help you. Basically, get to the point that you're smooth. Then speed up till you're not. Then get smooth again. Repeat ad nauseam That's a better way of putting it. That's also why my mag well gets laughed at in the Glock forum. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Looks like you practice a lot but with that damage all over the place you should probably slow down a tad. My Glock magwell just to the left and right of center gets messed up pretty quickly when I practice reloads, but it's pretty rare I'm hitting back there where the plug should be. I've had it 5 years and it isn't that beat up. Also get a USPSA legal plug, they're cheap and can guide some reloads that are just a little off into the magwell. I bend my magwell back in place and clean up the edges once a month or so with a screwdriver and a lighter. Planning on getting some of those all plastic Magpul mags for practice to see if it doesn't tear things up so bad. Pictures I posted here years ago of my torn up Beretta magwell got reposted on the Beretta forum and made fun of too. Quoted:

AJE: Could you tell me more about your camera setup? I see that it is a Contour-brand camera. Which model? How do you wear it? What are your thoughts on how well it works?
Absent a coach to improve my skills, I want to start recording my practice. I figure that a combination between a profile, and first-person view would work well. |

Quoted: So are those blue bullets really good to go? View Quote I've always used the hi-tek coated bullets like Bayou, Black bullet and SNS in my Limited gun with good results. I just got some blue bullets to try in my open gun - the coating is different from the others, but seems good so far. I was pushing the 115gr w/ 8.75gr of HS6 up past 1500fps without any issues. They smoke about the same as the hi-tek coated bullets at that same load - just a bit more than fully plated or jacketed bullet. I'll end up using MG 115 JHPs for matches and black & blues for practice in open. Don't over crimp the coated bullets or you'll get more smoke and worse results. |

View Quote I really can't find anything to complain about. I could nitpick... Some sort of display on the camera itself would be nice. The contour only has the on/off button and a status button (pushing it lights up two lights, the color of which let's you know the battery and memory status is at least half full, 50%-75%, or over 75%, and vice versa for the battery). My friend has a Sony that has a little display on the side that he can change settings on... the contour has to be plugged into the computer for that. That said, it's not on all that long for shooting matches so I haven't run into any problems at all. I just started leaving it on for scoring the targets, too. The mount is just stuck to the top of my headphones. .. nothing fancy. I have a hat mount that I haven't used yet. I recorded some of my practice yesterday, I hadn't done that before, so I'm looking forward to watching that and slowing it down in slow motion. |

Do any of yall practice with a timer? I've been working on basic stuff....mainly my draw. I'm pretty consistently drawing and getting sights on a close target between 0.5-0.6 seconds. Although I could probably get a little faster if I had a delay on my timer. It's a button on my phone, so I have to press it real quick and then draw.
What would be considered a "good" draw time? |
|
[#37]
Of course.
Download the ipsc timer app on yiur phone. If no real shot timer. Set par time and set for a random start time |

Sub one second is "good" (a lot depends on first shot target difficulty).
.7 is real good |

I'm consistently getting a draw/dry fire at 0.6, and sometimes down to 0.5 but not consistently yet. Last live fire practice I did, we set it to a 0.8 par time for a draw and shoot at 10m, and it wasn't extremely difficult. |

..Now that I have a little bit of time to write more/expand on the draw time.
I would say that in match time: 1.3 is avg 1.1-1.2 is decent 1.0-1.1 is good .9-1.0 is real good .8-.9 is upper level good .8 or lower is elite That's my thoughts at least. For a production rig. Blazing fast draws are not that important. I think world champion eric grauffel said he was happy with a second. |

Yep... you'll only have one draw a stage (or string).
However, if you work on moving, reloads, transitions, etc, you'll see a lot of those multiple times in stages. |

Everyone can hose. Not everyone can shoot a tuxedo on the move at 12, or hit a partial swinger at 20, or a headshot at 25. I'm constantly amazed at the depth of this game. Everytime you've got it figured out, something comes along to prove that you've only scratched the surface. |

I've been at it for about 30 minutes and Im starting to break a sweat. Draw time is consistently at 0.6-0.7, and draw--fire--reload is at 1.5-1.6. Ive gotten both lower but not regularly. I feel like my reloads are kind of slow. I keep finding myself inserting at an angle, which either slows it down or it catches the grip plug hole on the way in.
