It seems Mr. Putin is getting bolder by the minute. He very recently boasted about how he could reach Kiev, Riga, Vilnius, Tallinn Warszawa and Bucharest in just two days.
And now Wednesday Russian fighter and bomber planes flew several kilometers into Swedish airspace, again.
Seriously, what is he trying to achieve by all this nonsense. His economy is only going down and he is losing business partners rapidly.
Even if the Ukraine conflict was solved right now he has still painted himself into a corner. If his goal is a big conflict or a new cold war he is very successful, but there is not profit in that for him.

Two Russian fighter jets of the type Su-24, should have crossed the Swedish territorial waters south of Öland at noon on Wednesday, according to Expressen.

The plan must have lifted from Kaliningrad, flown at the Polish coast when the east of Bornholm turned north and flew at low altitude against Oland.

The plan must have turned eastwards, leaving Swedish airspace after a Swedish Gripen aircraft marked presence.

Armed Forces would not comment on the incident until an analysis has been made, writes Erik Lagersten, communications director, in a written comment:

"Only when the analysis is finished with a secure observed events, and the exact circumstances understood, making the Armed Forces decision on further management within and outside the Agency."

Swedish territory has been violated several times this year. On 18 July this year, violated an American reconnaissance aircraft Swedish airspace, after the international airspace chased away by Russian aircraft.

On June 20 violated two Polish plane Swedish airspace. According to Carl Bildt was probably by mistake.

Last year there were two confirmed violations. One occurred on the 28th October when five Russian planes, including two bombers conducted attacks exercises against Sweden, Poland and the Baltic states in two hours. Two Swedish Gripen fighters were sent up to mark attendance.

Early on Good Friday 2013 was practicing Russian planes near Sweden. Swedish Gripens stayed on the ground, which was criticized.

UPDATE

An alarm has gone out in the waters of Stockholm. There are a lot of Swedish military boats searching for submarines.
It seem to be a big mission and reporters say the soldiers are on edge, asking anyone in the waters for ID etc.

News article in Swedish
Memories of the 80s submarine hunts is so strong that it takes is a new alarm to bring them to life.

Especially when combined with a recent Russian aggression against Sweden and abroad.

So even if the evidence for what it is that Swedish military hunts in the Stockholm archipelago is as yet shrouded in mystery so do not put an end to the speculation.

It's only a month ago that two Russian fighter jets violated airspace south of the Swedish island of Öland. In addition, a number of other incidents in which Russia behaved aggressively clearly occur in international airspace.

Therefore, it is natural to suspect that even Russia is behind the vomit of Swedish territorial waters.

Just as was done in the air, the Russian military will test the Swedish defense preparedness under the waterline. It can also be a way to show that you are back as a military superpower and does not shy away from confrontation.
They simply want to scare Sweden. An indirect "advice" that we'd better not become members of NATO.

Since the armed forces are so extremely secretive about what kind of evidence you have for foreign submarine operations, you can not judge the quality of evidence.
If there are pictures or film the periscope or the like, it may be a witness who saw something and interpreted it incorrectly.

Of course there is also the possibility that it is a NATO submarine. Some evidence suggested that even American submarines violated Swedish waters during the 80th century.

1981 occurred one of the most spectacular violations as Sweden or any other country has ever experienced.
A Russian submarine in Whisky Class with the designation U-137 ran aground in the Karlskrona archipelago.
Large parts of the submarine were above the water, which had the world's press to revel in headlines like "Whisky on the rocks".

The Russians tried to explain away the incident with the captain navigated wrong.

During the same period there was a large number of other violations in the Stockholm archipelago. On several occasions brought the defense depth charges against suspected submarines.
Via hydrophone listening beat experts concluded that it was about Soviet spacecraft. But one spot identification were never going to do.

Sweden protested yet powerful and the Russo-Swedish relations ended up in the freezer.

Violations sat too deep in the Swedish soul. Many people were scared and wondered over the Soviet motives.

This and the fact that Russia reappears much more like the Soviet era is probably behind the defense reacted so hard and fast on the new data. It's obvious that you take them seriously.

But it is still worth pointing out that even in the 80s there were a number of sightings of submarines which in hindsight turned out to be mink and more.

Since the Berlin Wall in 1989 and the Soviet Union has no known violations occurred. Sweden has meanwhile equipped down its coastal defense in line with other cutbacks in defense.

It is obvious that today we live in an old-school reality where a new cold war is underway between Russia and the West. Russia gearing up sharply in all areas.

The Farské NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg was in his comments sure to point to the NATO pledge that an attack on one country is an attack on all.

A thinly disguised warning to Russia of its limits.

Just after lunch on Tuesday were three ships on Ingaröfjärden. Allegedly to DN they had contact with something, unclear.

HMS Stockholm, guard boat 91 and minesweeper A74 had just before lunch on Tuesday positioned relatively closely at an area south of Ingaro on Ingaröfjärden in the Stockholm archipelago. According to DN's team on site were the ships still or slowly circulating in the area for nearly two hours.

According to information provided to the DN was because the ships made ??contact with something. What is unclear. Minesweeper M74 launched including its remote controlled submersible vehicle.

A few hours later, just after 13:30, both left guard boat 91 and the M74 area. HMS Stockholm disappeared some time earlier.

The Armed Forces have concentrated Tuesday's effort to Nämdö Bay and several Navy vessels are in place to monitor and probe the inlet and outlet to the bay.

Russia's credit rating just got dropped by Moody's Baa2.  Their GDP is just slightly larger then California's.  I'm beginning to think that Putin is crazy.  They don't have the money for another cold war, and if they keep this crap up, eventually their oligarchy will experience another revolution.

Was your airforce able to respond, or were they closed for Good Friday again, and you had to get your asses saved by the Dutch--meaning your neutrality is costing other nations money?

And of course Putin could mop up Sweden--your own generals have admitted that they cannot hold anything but Stockholm in case of attack, and even then, only for less than a week.

Wake me up when you realize that Neutrality only works if your entire nation is Swiss rifleman, or when the Russian flag is flying over Stockholm.

Nope, your planes often violated our airspace. Even more than the Sovjet ones. Sweden has even chased away air force one with fully armed airplanes.

For fairness sake, maintaining 19th century fortifications along the Norwegian border would, at the end of the day, do relatively little to deter Russian submarines.

It's cargo cult thinking.  Acting like the zombie USSR is not going to create strength and greatness any more than building mock airfields will bring airplanes full of goods to your island just because you built them.

The Swedish armed forces has claimed that if they find a submarine they will attack.
EDIT: Not officail, but experts say it is what the guidelines for submarine hunting say.
