So, IOS 8 just dropped. Have a 5s. Is this going to ruin my phone like IOS 7 did to my iphone 4?

View Quote IOS 8 on the 5s should be fine. It's only one update over what the 5s launched with. When you put IOS 7 on your Iphone 4, that was 2 years difference in software vs hardware, so of course it was going to slow down a bit. My 4s handled IOS 7 like a champ, actually it sped up a bit. Just please back up your stuff before you upgrade. I used to be a tech at an Apple store, and with technology, shit happens. I had too many iphones that needed to be wiped because of an error in the update and the user didn't have a backup and lost everything. Best advice is backup on your computer using itunes and on icloud. Guide to backing up |

Quoted: I dunno, but each version has slowed my older iPhone down. View Quote That's been the case with my 4 as well but I learned something the other day. My brother had similar slow down issues. He had to unlock his 4S so he could travel abroad and use a EU sim card. He discovered that when he backed up his phone using iTunes then did a clean install of iOS7 & installed the backup that he gained several gigs in available memory and his phone was no longer slow or glitchy. I haven't had time to try it on my phone but I did notice in the cellular menu there was a chunk of memory allocated for uninstalled apps. And in the about Diagnostics & Usage Data there are a pile of crash reports. I have my diagnostics set to do not send. Don't know if that takes up memory as well.

I'm going to wait until the inevitable 8.0.1 that fixes any issues that crop up.
4S here. |

2 minutes remaining on my iPhone 5. I fully expect it to explode upon completion and an NSA agent will pop out and ask me for my ID.

Network bandwidth at the office has been 400% of normal for the last 25 minutes. I think we have a few people downloading it and the IPS alarms are going off now for abnormal activity.

The iPhone 5 payload is bigger than the iPad Mini payload. IPad Mini update d/l in about 10 minutes. About 3 hrs left on the iPhone 5 d/l. |

16gb just isn't enough for phones anymore. Happy to see the 64gb version is now available at old 32gb prices.

My iPad 4 is rebooting right now. We'll see if it f'ed up things. I am really hoping for split-screen multitasking in the next few updates. Seems like Apple is working on it.

So far so good. My iPad4 does not seem to be slowed down by the update. Looks and feels like ios7.

I hope its not a clusterfucked update . . . . about 70 min left on my download
Eta: This may have been a big mistake , as it just occurred to me that this week's 'Monday' was delayed two days . . . . for me at least . Seems everything I'm touching today has turned to shit ......especially anything to do with my computer |

Worked fine on my 5s. Will do my iPad 3 when I get home.
I dig it so far. Really can't wait for OSX Yosemite to be officially released, so that I can take advantage of other cool iOS features. |

Backing my 5s iPhone up now. Will hit the iPad when it's done.

Got into a bit of a weird hang because I have 2 step authentication. It was trying to send a code to my phone but it never came so I skipped the step and then manually signed it after the initial setup and everything is GTG.
