The original barrel from my 870P is in the same condition, except the the last inch held together

Seeing pictures like this makes me wonder if Myth Busters got this one wrong--or if they simply didn't have the one in a million conditions. They tried dirt, mud, snow, cleaning rods, laser bore sighters, metal rods driven into the barrel, and finally welding a solid steel cap onto the end of a barrel, and never got it to 'banana peel' like you see in pictures.

Looking at his other hand, he seems to like pointing at things.

Looks like you could cut the damaged section off and recrown, and still have over a 16" barrel length. Maybe not a total loss.

View Quote I wish I had pictures of the 20ga 101 an old man at the club blew up. The bottom bbl chamber area was gone along with the entire forearm and the top barrel was bent completely around towards the front of the gun. |

There IS a VERY old video someplace on YouTube of a hunter taking a shot during a mountain goat hunt....he had stuck the barrel in mud when he slipped earlier in the day....he did NOT think to clear the barrel.
On video he pulls the trigger and that sucker peels up just like a fucking Bugs Bunny cartoon gun. I was stunned. I didn't think barrels would actually do that. |
