When the COPS crew was out at my station I got the chance to meet a lot of them and they were a really good group of guys. Hope he pulls through
ETA: All of the crew had vests on when they were with us, lots of lights and camera equipment. Those guys are fearless though, with just a vest on and carrying all their filming gear they could move and stick right with you. Pretty impressive to watch. |

Pretty sad he passed away. The Omaha police are a good group of cops in my opinion, and I hope this turns out to be a tragic accident. View Quote http://www.omaha.com/news/th-omaha-police-officer-loses-job-over-rd-seward-street/article_49a67e58-5dfc-569d-93a1-f97effa923bc.html?mode=jqm |

Man I've been watching cops for a long time and don't recall that ever happening. View Quote Never heard of a COPS crewmember being shot or otherwise attacked. Is Omaha prepared for the violent demonstrations that will follow? Has Ojugears dispatched the full force of the .gov to find justice for the victim? Has Al Sharpton condemned the violence yet?

Wow, this is sounding like a clusterfuck. I wonder if other units showed up and did not know this guy was a cameraman? That's what I'm thinking, pending more details to come out. Sounds like he got caught up in the responding crossfire. If they didn't know what he was, they probably shouldn't have shot him. That seems to be a difficult concept for LEOs these days though. And "responding" and "crossfire" would seem to imply the bad guy was shooting too. Doesn't appear that he was. |

Could be the case as could the difficult concept of waiting for some of the investigation details to come out. I've seen cops flag other cops with weapons, I've seen citizens walk into pretty dangerous situations that you couldn't buy a clue for. If he's on a crew for Cops, I would imagine he should have a lot of field experience and time with cops. That said two or more humans each with the capability of independent thought and decision making may sometimes put one or more of them in the wrong place at the wrong time. |

Wow, this is sounding like a clusterfuck. I wonder if other units showed up and did not know this guy was a cameraman? View Quote Thats my thoughts. I was watching the 20th Anniversary COPS DVD set, and they showed some behind the scenes production stuff. The cameras and sound equipment is now very small, and black. Instead of a big boom mic, some actually are held like guns. The cameras arent on shoulders anymore, but held out in front at chest level. When I bough that set a couple of years ago ($5 at Walmart), I remarked then that the gear should be anything other than a dark color. I may have mentioned it here. |
