San Fran is a beautiful place. I went there on my honeymoon and loved it. It's not a bad place to visit at all. I don't think that I would like to deal with the crazy laws, nasty taxes and vagrants on a daily basis though. The local CA hometown forum members were very helpful in helping my wife and I scope out the area. We really appreciate it. If there are such good people in CA I find it hard to condemn the state. I have to disagree. SF is a shit hole. Yeah some areas where the tourists congregate are cool just cuz but the city as a whole is a shit hole. No it isn't. Let me guess... You ate rice-a-roni once while watching Dirty Harry? LOL as a lifelong Giants fan, I can tell you I've walked many streets in SF. Maybe I should rephrase that. Anyway, hung out with friends at Murphy's pub, biked through Golden Gate park, hoofed it from BART to Gordon Biersch and on the PacBell Park (yes I still call it PacBell), just about all the strip joints, just to name a few place I've had my rice-a -roni. I stand by my assessment, it's a shit hole. |

We moved there in '66, San Fernando Valley. It was paradise on Earth. I left March 7, 1992 after living in Orange County most of that time. Not so much then.
I can't even imagine now. I haven't even been back to visit since 2006. I look at old photos on Flickr.com here and seeing what it was back then, especially from 70-80, fills me with a profound sadness. Seriously. I was around when and where a lot of those pics were taken |

San Fran and the peninsula are narcissistic as fuck. It's a city that's fun to visit, but not to live in.
Lived in Seattle during my tour in the USCG, don't ever want to live in a major city again. Suburbia is fine.
